I had a muscle biopsy done, they saw holes (vacules) in the muscle cells. They further looked at it with electronmicroscopic study and determined that it was NOT Inclusion Body Myositis. But they did not say what caused the holes. Other things they saw are acute inflamation, denerveration - renerveration, and nerve die back similiar to an upstream pinch.
What can cause the holes???

You might like the book Detoxify or Die. She talks about these holes and attributes them to the effect of toxins on the body.

I think it may be the same type of inflammation they see in arterial vasculitis in borreliosis.

She mentions all kinds of toxins from our environment, food, illness, metals, pesticides, etc. She also has a plan on how to rid yourself of them.
Two of the many things she suggests are FIR saunas and coffee enemas.

What is differant about a FIR sauna? Ay my gym there is a steam room, dry heat sauna (160 degrees), euculiptus room, wirlpool, and pool.

It might have been holes created by the Lyme spirochetes as they bored through your muscle tissue.
There used to be a great photo of this on the "Under Our Skin" film website before the film came out.
I saved it to my computer, I will try to find it and post it here if I do.

Ah, found a couple in my old folders. I believe both of these are muscle biopsies, and both electron microscope images. Spirochetes are extremely small in width, so can easily bore through a muscle cell.
Sorry I don't have the sources anymore - I was too cognitively challenged by the Lyme to think of things like that at the time.

Hi JJ, I don't know about other organisms, but this is how spirochetes get around.
They are designed to move through more viscous/thick material, like muscles, or collagen-rich tissues (heart, joints, brain, nerves, spinal cord), so they much prefer that mode of transportation to blood or other liquids. That's one reason they are difficult to find in blood or CSF (cerebrospinal fluid).
The holes can't literally be in *all* of our cells, as that would leave us with no living cells. So there is that as consolation. woohoo!, right?
If you do a search on google scholar, you should be able to find many articles that address Lyme muscle and other tissue biopsies.
Your lab results are very important, by the way - if you haven't already, I would make sure to get the full images, reports, and analysis - everything that you have a legal right to own a copy of. This is extremely helpful information, and proves that you have an active disease state.
