So I just got started on treatment for my relapse through my primary. I don't have an appt with my Lyme doc until June. I can't remember how to take the probiotic?? I vaguely remember taking it so many hours after taking my antibiotics but I can't remember how often I took it or how many hours. Can someone help me? Thanks!

What is a "good probiotic" anyway? I've taken Natren Healthy Trinity, Body Biotics, Ultra Flora Plus, and some cheapies that I got from a mass market vitamin store. Isn't it true that if your bowels are moving well that the probiotics you are taking are doing what you need? Those Natrens are amazing though, I've got to admit that. But man are they pricey!

Make SURE You are on florastor in addition to a probiotic to protect against c.difficile.
A good probiotic has been tested for viability and potency. Good ones are VSL # 3, Florastor, Theralac, Ultraflora, etc.
Space them out 2-3 hours from antibiotics or as much as you can but you can take them after meals or whenever you can really.

Anthro... I think all you listed are good ones. Just don't buy the cheap stuff. You get what you pay for... could suffer because of it.

Thank You! I am taking the Body Biotics, but I can't say whether it's great or not. How would I know if it's not good or if it's great?

Oh and what is florastor?

kbrown... I just found out about BB .. have been on it for about a month and love it. (I'm NOT on abx though!!!)... It has really cut my sugar cravings.
You'll begin to have symptoms if it's not a good one.
Itching (esp scalp itching for me) bloating/gas fatigue joint pain
many similar symptoms as with Lyme, unfortunately...so it's not always easy to pinpoint

prevents c.diff

Floastor is saccharomyces boulardii,a beneficial yeast that everyone on antibiotics should take to prevent c.difficile
explains what c.difficile is.

I just spoke with my LLMD today and asked him about probiotics. He said that the science is lacking but that the probiotics of your gut when you were born determines what you need. Essentially you need to experiment to determine what works for you.
