I am on day 5 of Biaxin right now. This is my first time treating. I have had some mild/vague herx symptoms but nothing definite... but this rash thing seems like something.
I took these photos this morning. It has quieted down a lot. It was mostly on my right arm and wrist and a bit on my stomach. Once the bumps settled down and got smaller they left very slight small pimple-ish things. It was itchy but not terribly so.
I am still getting these little tiny migrating itchy bumps. They are not hives. Right now I have a couple on my collarbone.
Does this look familiar to anyone?
I've also had two episodes of major spaciness/forgetfulness today... like I forgot the name of a girl in my department at school and then later I couldn't remember why I went to a particular aisle in the supermarket. I had to ask my fiance what I was supposed to be getting (brown rice tortillas, it turns out).
Has anyone here seen a rash like this?? Herx rash maybe?? I hope so!!

Me, I'm getting them right now. I am on Biaxin too...however, I had them before the biaxin.
I remember showing my doctor at my last appt. he wasn't sure what it was....
Mine look the same as your pictures but they might be different. When you scratch them with your nail does the skin flake off? and then leave a white mark?

Nothing really flakes off or anything when I scratch them. They're almost like little tiny disappearing/migrating bugbites.
I have had hives and allergic reactions in the past and this doesn't seem like an allergy to me, though I could be wrong.
When they settle down they leave the smallest, slightest little bump. Nothing blistery or flaky though.

Could be either lyme or Bart. Both LD & Bart are notorious for causing lots of "goofy" skin conditions.
Or it could be a reaction to Bart, though more likely some type of die off reaction.

I have it on my neck now... mainly on the sides, a little on the front.

I was amazed when I saw your photos. EXACTLY what I have! I can't believe it! I too am on Biaxin currently, but I also had them much worse when on tetracyclene. I can't figure out exactly what triggers them, but when I wake up in the am, I have none, but after I take a shower and go to work, I have them starting, and by 6:00pm, they are usually almost gone, this isn't always the case though, sometimes they are 24/7, but I get them mostly on my hands, arms and neck.

i'm so sorry you have the same rash -- mine got REALLY bad and i had to stop the biaxin. after i stopped the meds it settled down and went away over the course of approx 7 days.
2 weeks later LLMD restarted me on brand name biaxin XL, instead of the generic regular release biaxin i was taking before.
the rash has not returned!
it really is weird... i figure it was some sort of herx but who knows. it was VERY itchy!!!

Hey.
I thought that these were just bug bites when I had them on my back, but now they've migrated to both of my hands and are absolutely covering my knees. I can't figure out how a bug could have gotten to my knees, and it's odd how they showed up on both my knees at exactly the same time. So I searched and found this. I just switched from antibiotics, and seem to have been experiencing a herx reaction. Maybe this is a part of that?
Anyway, thank you for posting this. Feeling slightly less crazy.

Maybe it was a reaction to the generic drug? Maybe there was a chemical in it that you were allergic to?
I have found that generics are different that the "real" drug. In some cases it doesn't matter but there has to be some reason why one is more expensive than the other...

I also periodically get itching bumps that are usually clumped into one area. Usually several bumps will appear, they itch for a few hours and within two or three days they are gone.

I have Bartonella, Babs and Lyme and have experienced many similar skin problems. Some of our pictures could almost be identical.
My LLMD suspects it is the Bart.
I've never been on Biaxin, but just about everything else.
My skin problems began many years ago and have persisted. I have been in treatment for a year and a half.

I agree w/lymemila. I believe the rash is a outward manifestation of a herx. In fact, I think it's a sign that the bugs are trying to get out of the body, because the drugs are making the body too toxic for them to tolerate.
I also think it could be due to Babesia. I had a rash on the back of my shoulders that was almost in the same place as yours. I posted a picture of it a long time ago.

I forgot to add that I apply topical antibiotics to my rashes and they make me herx. I've used Flagyl cream, ozonated olive oil, coconut oil, bee venom ointment, and other things, whatever seems to have some antibiotic qualities. I feel like topical treatment is just another treatment modality to kill more bugs than can be touched with orals or even injectable antibiotics.
