My son has tourette's syndrome, so weird behaviour isn't abnormal around here. What I thought was just another TS related tic seems to be taking over him. He talks like a toddler, and he's almost 14. He'll repeat things like an excited three year old... "I'm happy! I got a new game! I'm very happy, it's new! It's not broken!" And he'll tell me the same things over and over. It's similar to a tic in that way, but it's affecting the way he communicates with me more and more each day. If he wants to know what is for dinner, he'll ask me with wide eyes and a toddlers vocabulary - just like someone would do if they were imitating a toddler. My younger son says he sounds so innocent like a little kid and it makes him feel sorry for his brother.
I talked to my doctor about this, and he didn't really have any answers. Just said that the war isn't over and we've seen some breakthroughs but no home runs yet. I'm going to make an appointment with another doctor tomorrow. I'm getting scared.
Has anyone else seen or heard of anything like this?

Has your son been tested for lyme?? My daughter was diagnosed with tourette's when she was four.
She had all kinds of neuro problems. She had OCD, ODD, intrusive thoughts, vocal tics, motor tics, ADHD symptoms. It was awful.
She also had very painful knees since she was very small.
She is now 14 and was diagnosed with lyme last Sept. We now suspect that all of those symptoms were from lyme.
It makes me sick to think of all of the torment she and my husband and I have been through because of a wrong diagnosis.
Hope you find the answers you need..

Yes, he was tested for lyme. It seems we have been traveling the same path. He was diagnosed with lyme less than a year ago as well. One of his earliest symptoms was painful knees. I think he has congenital lyme.

Here's a link to start researching PANDAS. Don't let the autoimmune part freak you out. It's possible that symptoms resolve with adequate treatment for the infection.

Typical symptoms and a typical diagnosis of a child with Cogenital Lyme Disease. Dr. Jones is the way to go.
I'm surprised Autism wasn't thrown in there just for kicks.
With proper treatment most children see significant progress.

U.S. doctor links radio waves from cell phone towers to cancer, Azheimer's, senility, dementia, Parkinson's and Autism: http://www.avaate.org/article.php3?id_article=1140 Posted by Jasmin (Member # 19959) on :
and PANDAS and PITAND came up. I am going to look into it today.
Tourette's may or may not be part of the autism spectrum...
I live on the same block as a cell phone tower. I
can't afford special paints or sleeping nets at
the time. I think Dr.K's addressed the EM
pollution at a Lyme induced autism conference. Interesting.

I find this thread very interesting. My son started having motor tics at age 4... 6 months after he had 2 tick bites. He has had several motor tics come and go since then (he's now almost 6) with one that remains constant (every 1-2 minutes). He was just diagnosed with Lyme 2 months ago. He basically presents as having Tourette's, though we have never received an official diagnosis.
Jasmin - I am curious if you have seen any improvement in your son's tics since he has been on antibiotics for almost a year now?

Unfortunately not. We have seen an improvement in other symptoms though.

Time to go on aggressive IV with HBOT?

I don't have the funds for that. I just hope this goes away. I would take the noisiest tics every day for the rest of his life it just meant I had my son back. Posted by Carol in PA (Member # 5338) on :
You may be able to reduce the tics with magnesium.
