how many of you have herxed on plaquenil?

My doc changed my lyme meds a bit. So currently on plaq/zith and mepron/zith for babs.

the funny thing is that I started herxing within 48hours of being on this.

What were your herxs like with this med?

Look forward to hearing from you. [Wink]

Interesting, plaquenil is supposed to help reduce inflammation and pain. That (and it's immune modulating effects) is why rheumatologists prescribe plaquenil to their Rheumatoid arthritis patients.

I've been on plaquenil for about 2yrs now. When I started it I was also taking Biaxin XL, Bicillin LA, and Mepron at the same time. So, I do not remember having a specific herx from the plaquenil.

Janice, could it be that the combination of meds that you are now on (Plaquenil, Mepron, and Zith) are more effective as a combo than what you had been treating with before?

I also used Plaquenil with Minocycline, Azithromycin. I did not had any herx on the Plaquenil.

My LLMD told that it is used for the pains and inflammation as sammy said.

Plaquenil is a God send for me regarding the pain.

I am on mino/azith/plaq. The only one that gives me a hard time is the azith. I have now started taking Immodium AD with the azith and things have been better; though I just started this the last time so we shall see . . .

RKS,
why are you taking immonium ad? is the zith giving you stomach issues?

Which llmd do you see in MD?

I am on plaq and zith - I herx monthly, low grade fever, achy, pain, hard to move, tired. I've been on this for 1 year.

janice - hi, sorry, I was off the site for a couple of days and then lost track of what I've posted; there's so much here!

Anyway, yes, I was getting pretty bad stomach pains with diarrhea, chills, and a general overall not so good feeling.

This past Sat. I took an Immodium AD after taking the azith and I was ok.

I didn't ask my LLMD; I was going to call, but it was the weekend and I didn't feel like having another day like I'd been having, so I tried it on my own.

I hope it won't hurt me. I should probably call her tomorrow since I have to take it again tomorrow. I take it 3x a week.

I was reading about Saccharomyces boulardii, which sounds like it might be something better to try, but want to ask her first.

I am seeing Dr. K from Dr. F's practice in Rockville.
