is not tough on the liver or stomach. In the past I have used ibuprofen, but afraid to use it now with the stomach problems I have been experiencing. I need something I can use several times each day.
I tried prescription Tramadol but vomitted for hours after taking it.
Any suggestions?

trameel by heel has helped me with inflamation and pain. but check with your Dr before taking it. It is a sublingal homeopathic ..you can google it and see if you think it might help.

You might try something topical like "Biofreeze", rub it on the painful areas of your back.
For a non-drug alternative, try applying a heating pad to your back. There are disposable ones that have adhesive so that you can literally stick in on your back, under your clothes.
There are herbal combinations that might help decrease inflammation and pain like New Chapter's Zyflamend. Be careful though because these natural anti-inflammatories can also irritate the stomach like OTC (motrin, aleve) and RX NSAIDs (celebrex, etc).
If you are struggling with nerve pain, talk with your doctor, you might find relief with and RX like Lyrica. You could also try RX pain patches (lidocaine, etc).
Don't forget acupuncture, chiropractic care, and physical therapy. These treatments help to repair and restrengthen the body so that you can move freely again without pain.

Is the pain in your muscles (trigger points, mialgias, tightness, etc.) or is it vertebrae-related?
This is NOT OTC, but is not hard on either of the organs as far as I know. Lidoderm (lidocaine in them; topical use) patches have been very helpful for my neck/back. You'd need an Rx, but I really like them.
