The examples and references on this website are not substantiated. This website is on the verge of being quite Hostile. However, I haven't seen the other side of this. Can someone provide substantiated, hard evidence that Chronic lyme can be treated and Long Term antibiotics are effective? BTW I already know that late stage Lyme exists and in MANY cases including my own, 4-8 weeks of oral ABX is not effective.
IMO the doc that runs Quackwatch is an idiot or perhaps doctor of idiocy.
If I recall correctly he never treated patients so he has no practical experience. He only has his severely warped theories.
He disagrees with everything that does not recommend drugs. Perhaps it is BigPharma that funds his site for no brainers.
ANYONE who quotes him as a source is clueless.
Am I biased ? SURE ! He has been anti-chiropractic for years, so as a chiro I always post my opinion of this idiot Posted by treepatrol (Member # 4117) on :
Yep

From what I have seen of the site, nothing outside conventional medicine, or conventional medical thought, is of any value ever.
So basically we have all of the answers at this time, and nothing new can or will be discovered now or in the future.
My chiropractor has helped me in ways I would not have thought possible. As much, if not more than any other doctor I have dealt with.
The list so far is the routine process of putting my spine back into place, so it does not hurt.
Taking a long standing wrist problem that I thought was Carpel Tunnel syndrome, and fixing it with one adjustment.
Greatly reducing my seasonal allergies through a homeopathic remedy. Also reducing my son's far worse seasonal allergies using the same remedy, in one week.
The quack watch guy exists for the easily swayed, and non thinkers. It is not to be taken seriously by anyone who can do their own thinking.
Just my opinion.

It's a paradox with long term abx treatment vs. short term treatment. For many, the long term abx treatment doesn't work, either... It's really a gamble either way.
I think these Quackwatch type of sites are rather closed minded & are probably funded by Big Pharma. There has to be many open alternatives to treat an illness like Lyme & the co-infections. It's quite complex - contrary to popular belief.
The thing is - is that you have to continue some kind of additional treatment after the initial abx - whether it's long or short. Everyone is different & we all have unique ways that this illness effects us.
Many people continue the abx & supplement it with alternative treatments like herbs, supplements, various methods of detox, anti-parasite drugs or herbs, anti-virals (drugs or herbs), heavy metal detox, etc.
It's really a multi faceted illness - especially if a person has been ill for a long time & has, maybe, been misdiagnosed.

I agree that it is likely run by or heavily influenced by Big Pharma.
He's a dick, let's be honest.

I guess you boiled it down to three words, and pretty accurately in my opinion!

Isn't the history behind this guy something like he was the Lyme officer at the NIH (I think- or CDC?) and his anti-patient agenda has everything to do with the Lyme controversy primarily?
Funny, yesterday I posted in the Blumenthal thread that not everything political involving Lyme public figures is about Lyme. In this guy's case I think it is and that much of the rest of the site is sorta secondary to his hatred of the 'other side' in the Lyme debate.

"He's a quack!!!", although my 3 words aren't as accurate as MBs. A quack because he pretends to be knowledgeable about medicine yet he's a psychiatrist who hasn't practiced in years.
Yea.... I would agree. After seeing some of his other posts, I guess he is more of an A.M. radio guy, and yes, a big angry tool at that. The ALDF, however must hold him in high regard since they link to him on their website. The whole idea of being taken seriously when you run a website called "Quackwatch" is kind of ludicrous. But there is certainly a market for anger, ignorance and frustration in this world. I Still do not get it though. Why spend so much time and energy talking trash? Why would Big Pharma be involved with NOT encouraging people to take more of their drugs? Maybe the Insurance Co's do not want to pay for long term coverage of ANYTHING. I could see that. I have seen it actually. Insurance co's HATE sick people! It just does not make sense to me that educated people that have dedicated their lives to healing folks, many of these people are students of science and logic, would wind up only interested in the status quo. If School and science and history had taught them nothing, it is that the advancement of medicine and science has never been the result of reliance on old methods, and research has been most useful when applied toward what WILL work, not to reinforce that the old way is the only way.....arg very frustrating....what a bunch of..... DICKS!

Ditto.

Medicine may have ONCE been about logic + science.
Go to the General Forum here + follow the link I posted to an article about drug company corruption.
Lyme is such a tough one that most docs do not really learn about it + deal with it.

Please read the following link describing how deeply entrenched bigpharma is:
