So...as most of you may know I'm in day 10 of treatment after being diagnosed on 5/3 following feeling like crap for 4 months.
My sister is in the medical profession and I was asking her about some advice for my 2 year old daughter. We found a tick attached to her ear a few weeks ago. it had been there for days and we had trouble taking it off. The mouth is most likely still there. Her doc refuses to prescribe and says we should watch for a rash, etc. The usual.
I called an LLMD who told me they would recommend a 30 day course of antibiotics for her as a precaution. So I mentioned this to my sister to see her opinion.
She completely disagreed and said that was too strong for a 2 year old and that I was being ridiculous. She said I've become totally obsessed with Lyme and I need to get off the internet and play with my kids in the grass.
Pretty bummed out. I don't consider myself obsessed. I consider myself getting educated so I can get well and protect my family.

Just shows you how stupid some of the med. profession can be. First as a sister, shame on her for not supporting you. I just lost a friend for the same reason. Your not obsessed you are SMART to learn everything you can about your illness.
Second, I sure hope you listened to the llmd and put your child on abx. You don't need her advice. Like I've said before ...Never listen to anyone who doesn't have lyme because they know NOTHING. Your in the right place.

Wow, lucky you got the smart genes. What a moron.

She swallows the "official" story hook, line + sinker.
Give her some lyme without treatment to see how well she does. And tell her what Forrests' mom said: "Stupid is as stupid does".
And ask her about the medical history of giving kids TONS of antibiotics for recurrent ear infections.

Thanks guys. She is my sister and I love her. I respect her medical opinion. It was the "obsessed" comment that hurt.

Unfortunately, when it comes to Lyme, you can't respect the mainstream doctor's opinions. I was undiagnosed and not believed for over 30 years. Got bitten again and was bedridden, yet still not believed.
Your sister should support you. Mine didn't either. Fortunately, they live over 1000 miles away so I just didn't talk to them at all for my 6 years of misery. Having people tell me I was obsessed and not sick did nothing for my health.
I bet she wouldn't tell a cancer patient she was obsessed with cancer. How can you not be obsessed with a disease that has taken over your life?

You are "all lyme all the time". I get that a lot and although I laugh it off, it hurts more than anything ever has.
People don't get that we don't get a 30 second break. That we are fighting for our lives. I get that. You sister may never get that. . .or she might.
Either way, my heart goes out to you. And, I have 2 congenital kids. I would totally do 30 days of treatment. Kids are SO resilient.

yes, it is sad. Sometimes we do not get the support we need from family.
In our case, our daughter has Lyme and Co. Some family members have been supportive and others not.
I feel it is ignorance to this horrible disease. They do not understand the length of treatment, etc.
I often get, shouldn't she be well by now- the long term antibiotics are not good for her--some things you just have to live with--probably her age, etc etc.
I know many think that I am obsessed with Lyme. Well maybe I am, but my mission is to get our daughter well.
Lyme stole my daughter and I want her back-- I will not stop until she is well.
Unless someone has Lyme or is caring for someone with Lyme --chances are they "don't get it"
You have to do what you feel is right for your child.
Best of luck

We can heal from lyme, but we can't fix stupid/ ignorent people.
You know that old saying..."sticks and stones may break your back, but words will never harm me?" Who ever came up with that line didn't have lyme.

Do they really not understand or do they really not want to understand ? And why ?
I have a sis that is a nurse too. She teaches nursing at a state college. My respect for her has plummeted - I lived in her house for 6 months while doing pretty poorly and she still decided to remain clueless.
