I have tested negative for co-infections and don't really have any obvious symptoms of them.
My main symptom is fatigue- could this be just from the lyme? Or does another co-infection point more to that?
Also, I've read about lyme damaging the mitochondria and that playing a role in fatigue. Is this permanent damage or can it be repaired once lyme is under control?

Could be Lyme, could be Babesia, could be 10,000 other things! That's why you need a good evaluation.

Sorry, I don't know anything about mitochondria.
I hope you found an LLMD so your questions can be answered!!
Lyme and babesia are the worst at causing fatigue.
The problem is that my LLND sometimes has different information than what I read here and elsewhere.
I've read that it is near impossible for someone to just have lyme, but my doctor disagrees with that.
She also doesn't believe that lyme can be transferred through misquitos or passed on from another person. It's so hard to know what to believe. That's why I try to get a consensus of what other people believe to be true.

I would think about 10% of Lyme patients have only lyme...but you could be in that group! Let's hope so!

Is your fatigue induced by activity or there all the time? That's an important question.

What do you take for Lyme fatigue?
One of the best things to try is Methyl B12 shots.

Seekhelp, does it mean something if your fatigue is induced by activity?

From my research, mitochondrial diseases are aggravated by activity, espcially metabolic myopathies. I went through an extensive work-up years ago. Many here will claim they have mitochondrial disease (and there may be some truth), but I'm referring to verifiable illness backed by tests like a skin/muscle biopsy, carnitine testing, lactic acid, etc.

I would say that, yes, fatigue can be the prevailing, sole symptom of lyme. Not everyone gets hallmark symptoms, like joint pain. Fatigue has been a main issue for me as well.
Rule out endocrine abnormalities, especially those originating in the thyroid.
Having endocrine issues does not rule out lyme...as often lyme causes endocrine problems.
If you suspect it, treat it and see what happens.

Check out GiGis post above about the parasie/worm connection. They can cause major fatigue.

Everything is the worst at causing fatigue.
There is absolutely, positively, no way in the world of pinpionting what is WORSE at causing fatigue.
It could be Lyme, Babs, Bart, your thyroid, your adrenals, or a zillion other things.
Fatigue has been my main symptom for YEARS. I have been totally and completely incapacitated by it, bedridden, non functional. I've been on everything, IV's, a zillion antibiotics at once, supplements, you name it, on my 7th lyme doctor.
Now I'm 7 weeks into Bartonella treatment. I'm ONLY on Rifampin. Guess what? I'm getting better. My fatigue has improved by a solid 25% and is lessening more every day. And I was in a hard core "lyme coma." Sleeping up to 18-20 hours a day at times.
Now I'm up. I'm getting up!!! I feel like a baby who has to relearn everything! It's been THAT long since I've been out of bed.
So if you ask me, Bartonella is the worst cause of fatigue. But that's me!!!!

Fatigue is my worst symptom too. I tested positive for lyme, ehrlichia, chlyamdia pnuemonia, HHV-6, and cyclomeglovirus. However, LLMD said with all the doxy I have had during treatment that ehrlichia shouldn't be a problem.
Nothing I have ever taken has helped the fatigue.
Maybe you have some viruses playing around in your system along with the bacteria...

Fatigue was my major symptom. It was debilitating!
My GP kept insisting that I go to an Endocrinologist which I finally did.
Thank God!
Turned out my pituitary gland is basically not functioning either from an infection or an accident I had in 2001.
My HGH was too low causing a whole host of symptoms, the main one being fatigue.
I've been on HGH injections going on 2 years now and am about 70% back to where I used to be.
