Unrelated to lyme but...

I have severe anxiety over health related things.

I have a skin infection and I know this can turn into sepsis and I was given Zithromax

I've taken it plenty times in the past but this time I am extremely worried that I'll have some sort of reaction to the drug as I've been googling side effects and reading other peoples reactions.

What bothers me now is that I think I'm going to have an allergic reaction and that if I take the antibiotic, because I believe I'll have a reaction, my body will have some crazy immune response to the medication caused by my over thinking.

Is this even possible? Can I have an allergic reaction just because i think I will?

Also i hear a lot of people have anxiety with zithromax, gahh I don't know what to dooooooooooooooooooooo

If you know that you have anxiety issues, especially with taking medications, avoid reading the package inserts. Don't google other peoples responses to the medications. Don't look at the side effects. Worrying can make you sick!

Most people never experience any side effects. If all these drugs were so terribly dangerous and if everyone got sick from them all the time, do you think that anyone would chose to prescribe or take them?

Many people on here on LN take Zithromax (or something similar like Biaxin) for months, sometimes years to treat their Lyme.

So, go ahead and take the medication as your doctor prescribed it. You have a skin infection that needs treated so that you don't get sicker.

It may take a few days for you skin/wound to heal, watch it closely to make sure that it is getting better.

If your skin/wound begins to look worse or if you feel sicker, simply call your doctor for a follow up appt.

Try not to worry. You are doing the right thing trying to take care of yourself. You will be OK.

*Hugs*

I just wanted to add that if my best friend came to me with the same concerns, I would tell her the same thing I told you above.

Hang in there OK.

Can you call a friend to help distract you today? Maybe watch a funny movie. Go to the park. Get some ice cream. Do something fun that you might not normally do. That might help you feel better too.

thank you [Smile]

my buddy is coming over to be kind of a watcher over me lol. I'm going to take the zithromax soon.

I've taken it before, I don't know why I'm freaking so bad.

I just recently went through something similar. I have taken probably 15 medications over the last 2 years for LD and didn't really ever freak out about any of them.

Then my doc prescribed a psych med to me and I read the warnings. Scared the crap out of me.

But the facts are the pharma companies are just covering their butts. Every medication has possible severe side effects and even if it just happens one time they have to warn about it. Even tylenol and asprin have severe side effects.

I've learned that I would rather take the risk and hopefully get my life back. Thats how I have to look at it now.
