OK. I am on doxy now, 400MG a day. have been for a little over a month. It doesn't seem to be doing much, I do feel a little better, haven't had any herxes. I think after 2 months of doxy I am going to try ceftin... plus its summer and I want to be in the sun.
My question is , IS there a difference between what ceftin and zithromax do? How do they compare to what doxy does? Lyme is the issue, no co-infections as far as I am concerned. Early disseminated I believe.
would there be a advantage to taking ceftin and zith together?
doesn't doxy cause spiro's to turn into cysts? Do cefin or zith do this?

Zith goes after the form of Lyme without the cell wall (the L form or the intracellular form, all 3 mean the same thing), which is what Doxy does.
Ceftin (and things like Rocephin, Amoxicillin, Bicillin) goes after the form with a cell wall.
So there would be a LOT of benefit to doing Ceftin with Zithromax. Because you would be hitting two forms of Lyme at once.
The third form is the cyst form, which you can hit with Tindamax, Flagyl, maybe Alinia, maybe Plaquenil. But you will probably want to wait until you've been treating a little longer before you try busting up the cyst form.
Anyways...I don't know if the Zith's and Doxy's will cause it to go into cyst form. I want to say no. But supposedly Ceftin will.
What most Lyme doctors would do would be to put you on Ceftin with Zith and then later on, add the cyst buster.
If you're not seeing results on Doxy yet, you might as well switch.
Also, I highly recommend Low Dose Naltrexone for those not herxing, because it helps your immune system behave. www.lowdosenaltrexone.org for explanation and how the doctor needs to prescribe it (no extended release, go to compounding pharmacy etc)
Also, I would go on something that dissolves biofilms.....such as Wobenzym on an empty stomach, or Bulouke (spelling?) on empty stomach, or Serrapeptase.
If you seach "biofilm" in the Subject line using the search feature on this site, you should find a lot of info about what's good for biofilms. I would at least take a supplement to dissolve them, while you are treating.
