I love my llmd, going to her since 2004. On IV 3 times prior to this time, but this time after 6

mos and almost a breakdown nothings cutting it. Take klonapin to get me through. I feel she's

stuck. She wants to put me on birth contol pills to see if it helps hormones, this is the

first time I didn't do as she said. My psych raised my lamictal last week and I'm on

anafranil for ocd, I didn't want to mix one with the other. I feel as if I've stumped the docs

and like everyone else, am in the middle. In a bad place, trying to keep busy, but my llmd

knows she's helped me before and this time is really bad. It s not that I don't want to

listen to her, but I'm afraid of birth control pills, my mind is already messed up and I have

alot of issues health wise (low salt, heart stuff). What would you do? I'm really at a loss.

Thanks.

I would take the lamictal for a while first. You have to slowly build up to the right theraputic dosage and then you will need time to see if its going to help you.

I am one that thinks you should not start too many things all at one time. You won't know what is working and what is not if you do.

I would very nicely tell your LLMD that you want to see how you feel on the lamictal first; and wait a little bit longer and then address the hormones. Let her know that you DO want to address the hormones in a few months so she won't think you are disregarding her help.

In the meantime, you will have a few months to see if the lamictal is starting to help you. My doc says 100mg is the minimum theraputic dosage.

You have been treating with this doctor an awfully long time--6 years.

When you sense that the doc is stuck, has used all the tricks in their bag, it is time to get someone with more expertise to look at your case.

You are in an area that has lyme doctors, so you may want to consider another doc.

The first mistake most lymies make is staying with their doctor too long. If the doc is not getting you better, that is a sign to try another doc.

The second mistake is, after staying with a doc too long, they begin jumping from doc to doc too quickly. It is sort of an over-reaction to their first mistake. Don't want to make that one again or something.

So, there is a ditch on either side of the road. Wisdom is avoiding both ditches.

It was so very hard for me to decide to drop my lyme doctor after 2 years. But, it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. I switched to a doc who followed the Burrascano protocol. He knew so much more than my previous lyme doc. This doc got rid of my lyme, babs, and bart in 1 year.

It has now been over 5 years since I completed my lyme treatment and I am still symptom-free, enjoying my life. I have the same life I had before lyme disease. And, I had undiagnosed lyme disease for 10 years prior to getting treated.
