And when I eat... sometimes it feels like a KNOT inside my stomach.
What the heck is going on? Do i stop abx's? (I'm on ceftin/doxy/rifampin)

I've been dealing with this off and on for about 4 months now. For me, I think it is a combo of the abx I was on and also I have a weird pinched nerve and tricky ribs on my left side that I think make my stomach and intestines tense up (I think this because often times it feels like a stitch like pain on my left side).
I often get bloated on the left side under the ribs and in between my navel after a meal. I try to keep my meals smaller to avoid this.
The type of food I eat doesn't make a difference and I still get an appetite but of course if the bloating is worse on a certain day my appetite will often be affected simply because I'll want to avoid eating.
I've ruled out gastroparesis-I still eat 4-5 times a day and get hungry...but I do think there is some sort of weird motility issue going on due to both the abx (Biaxin and Plaquenil-ouch) which I have been off of for a month and my tricky ribs on the left side. Pinched nerves can do a lot of weird things.
I am trying to stretch more and I am exercising more which does seem to help.
I'm prepping to do a colon cleanse soon to try and get things back on track-we'll see! Keep in mind abx can do more than mess with just the colon-they can mess with the small bowel as well which can often be more difficult to deal with.

Ya, I'm gonna have to stop abx's for a while until I figure this out.
For me it seems to get worse when I exercise or use my core muscles.

Could be yeast/candida. I have the same issues and are sometimes helped by anti-fungals and following the Candida diet. Are you taking probiotics?

Same here. I've been actually chilling a bit on the ab work because it irritates whatever pinched nerve/rib issue I have going on.
I know the abx set it off for me-my stomach was doing well and BAM! 5 days into Biaxin/Plaquenil the bloating and IBS like issues started. I stayed on them for 3 months simply because it did wonders for me, but no matter how strict I was with diet my tummy continued acting up.
I am seeing my gastro doc tonight so he can grope around in there and confirm what organs are causing the issues so I know where to go with treatment.
I think its going to end up being a lot of colon/gut cleansing on top of some aloe/slippery elm teas, and good stretching-maybe some yoga.
I am keeping my exercise to walking and hiking for the time being. Neither seem to make the issue worse and actually it seems to help if anything. Definitely avoiding further ab work for the time being though.

yeast is definitely part of it I'm sure. Thats why the colon cleanse is big on my list.
I do follow an anti-candida diet and have from the beginning and do take some anti-yeast sups but its hard to keep it at bay with so many potent abx going into your system at once.
Now that I'm off the abx though I can really focus on my gut which is really important to me and one of my biggest challenges.

I'm on probiotics.
This seems to be more muscle/tissue related.
My stomach swells up after I do anything involving my core (exercise, etc)
It's really inflamed today.
Does anybody have any good herbal remedies for inflamation?
Whats the herbal equivalent of advil? Willowbark or somethin?

Cane-
You can try an enzyme based anti inflammatory. Something with bromelain in it. Wobenzyme is one but there are cheaper and effective ones out there. they really help. I am actually going to go back on one this weekend when I get my paycheck haha.
Just make sure to take it on an empty stomach otherwise it'll just digest your food. I think its best before bed so it can be used while you're sleeping.

Like wobenzyme?
I take Turmeric with bromelain in it
Posted by elley0531 (Member # 9434) on :
yes Wobenzyme is one but there are others. If you are already taking tumeric with bromelain in it it may not be worht it-but it depends on the concentration of the bromelain. I'd have to check out the bottle that I have at home to find out exactly what's in it.
Also-making sure you take it on an empty stomach is key.

Just read in another thread that these could actually cause stomach pain. That hasn't happened to me-but I'm sure its possible so maybe be careful with it.
You're in that thread too so you'll see this suggestion twice haha but slippery elm tea is soothing on the gut lining-just take it away from meds.

Most likely the meds, especially the Doxy. I'd take a break, and not just throw random supplements at it. Sometimes you need to take nothing and let things settle down and heal. One of the most healing is carafate for the stomach. Posted by canefan17 (Member # 22149) on :
Ya, I agree.
I'm rolling with lemon water, break from abx's, exercise, and Yogi Detox Teas

Also be careful of ginger in your tea, it can be irritating to the gastric mucosa even though it is touted to help stop nausea, same thing with peppermint (which actually causes more GI reflux)
You might be able to heal up a bit then re-start your meds one at a time and take carafate spaced out in between meds to help your stomach and at the same time make sure you eat full meals with your antibiotics no matter what the directions on them say.

I think I'm done with abx's for now lol
And it doesn't bother me one bit. At least at the moment

I haven't started any kind of treatment yet and I get the stomach pain on the left side, too. I think it must be the candida, leaky gut, fungus, parasites, take your pick. I also get discomfort lower than that that sometimes extends into toward the back. This is probably something going on, irritable bowel possibly in the large intestine again stemming from overgrowths?
One other thing that has crossed my mind about the stomach pain on the left side is that it could be inflammation of one of the internal organs over there causing pressure and pain?
I really don't know what it is, but I can tell you that I get this and I'm not on any abx.
I was taking a product called Threelac for candida. Not sure whether that made things worse or not. I don't recommend the stuff. It might be responsible for giving me hemorrhoids. I'm beginning not to trust anything that comes out of Asia. I think they're secretly trying to kill us Americans.
