A friend of mine has a 4 month old baby and she found a very tiny tick on him that might be a deer tick. She wants to get the tick tested, and I was wondering if folks have any advice about the best place to do that? I found the following page, is this a good place to start? http://www.health.ri.gov/disease/communicable/lyme/ticktesting.php
Also, her son is on daily doses of amoxycillin because of another condition. Does anyone know what antibiotics are recommended for preventative dosing for very young children?

When my son was treated for a tickbite - we used amoxycillin for 30 days. 6 weeks would be better, but we were happy with the 30 days and have had no lingering symptoms.
So sorry to hear about this, but glad that Mommy is taking care of it right away!

Many states in the northeast have labs the public can send ticks into. (But not all!) Testing costs vary, but $50 to $75 per tick is common. Check with your State health dept.
Also, for tick labs in Pennsylvania, I'd check with the folks at LymePa.org They're very well informed.

New Jersey Labs will test for Lyme. No coinfections though. Its about $65.00. They have a website with an address. If you need instructions on how to send the tick call the 1-800 number.
Also Igenex will test ticks.

IgeneX Lab can test the tick for $60.00. Their website is www.igenex.com and their phone number is 800-832-3200. They are in CA, so be aware of the time difference.
