I never understood what that meant- does anyone know? My LLMD asked if I had been to Europe years ago, and said the strain of lyme I had was from Europe.

Back then I had bands 23 and 41 on my IGM. I am still hunting for my tests to compare the IGG bands to see, as only 41 (and 4 other bands) NOT 23kd, are on my current positive IGG.

I'm really curious what makes your LLMD suspect that. Im wondering because I got sick over there in 1992.

I've heard European strains cause more neurological symptoms.

I'm thinking the difference is in the symptoms not in the western blot bands.

Hope someone can answer your question. I'd like to know too.

I saw that LLMD in 2000? or 2001. I had 2igm and 7 IGG, then dropped down to 1 igm and 7 igg.

Then I was + in CSF titer ratio (forgot what its called) all by cdc standards. regular lab, not igenix or any of those.

I just never undderstood what he meant. Now I'm pullin a 6.80 on my lyme elisa w a positive IGG of 5 bands thru regular lab. I was beyond neuro symptoms then, he said neuroborrielis (cant spell it). I had seizures too. Frontal lobe partial complex. Huge swollen joints, hands would shake, would see shadows out of the corners of my eyes- god aweful mess. I don't want to revisit to that extent and i am worried I was reinfected recently. Just didn't know what he meant back then with the 'have you been in Europe', cuz it was a strain from there??

Do a google search on "Lyme strains Europe" and one hit is:

The strains of Lyme disease found in Europe are different from the ones found in the US. The European Lyme strains are called B.Burgdorferri, B.Afzelii, and B.Gariini.

Hope that helps!

You sound like you've been through sooo much!! I wish you good health and happiness very soon!

I think there is one band that is more common in Europe. I can't remember which one. You could call Igenex and ask.

www.igenex.com

or go to www.canlyme.org .. or whatever the site is... they may know

Rose; That is very interesting because my LLMD (also from NJ) told me the same thing based on the odd rashes I would get on my hands.

Though I have not been to Europe in over 10 years!
