My right eye is swollen and irritated. I went to the eye doctor and he said it could be an infection but wasn't sure. He gave me abx drops. I don't really want to take more abx.
What do people do for their eyes? Maybe I'll squirt a lemon in it. Just Kidding
I have cleaned it with a warm wash cloth and taken otc drops.
any thoughts?

Hyaluronic acid, which is NOT acid (!) is a very good lubricant for your eyes and skin. You can buy it at the health food store. Get the vegetarian type, not chicken sternum or rooster comb.

I've been having good luck with Optique homeopathic eye drops for eye irritation. My eyes are dry, often irritated, and I also think I have a touch of blepharitis.
The Optique drops come in those little single-use vials. I do store them carefully and reuse until the vial is empty.
Similisan also makes dropper bottles of homeopathic eye drops. They have different formulas--dry eyes, pink eye, allergies, eye strain.
Maybe just try rinsing with an eye cup and warm water or applying hot compresses. Have you tried OTC lubricating drops for dry eyes.
The preservative-free one I've used is Soothe, or something like that, by Bausch & Lomb.
Take care, Nutmeg

Plain old regular tea bags are good. Dip it in boiling water & let it cool alittle. Apply it to your eye. I think it's the tannic acid in the tea that's good.
Goldenseal is also good. You can make a tea from the root pieces. It's better to use the root rather than the powder since the powder has small particles. Simmer the root on a really low fire for about 5-10 minutes & apply the tea with a piece of cotton.
Don't drip it on your clothes since it can stain.

My eye irritation turned out to be uveitis, the 3rd most common cause of blindness in the USA and the number one cause of it in Lymies. See an Opthalmologist, not an Optometrist to get a slit lamp test to find out.
If it is uveitis, they will prescribe steroid drops forever!!! That eventually leads to cataracts and possible cysts and other problems.
I did some research and found a lipidized form of vitamin B1 (thiamine) called Benfotiamine. It is totally safe, and a 120 day supply can be purchased at www.vitacost.com for $11.99. I am not associated with Vitacost and you can get it other places too.
Because it is a B vitamin, you should also add a B Complex to prevent imbalance, if you are not already taking one. I find Jarrow BRight to be the best one I've tried.
I've been on 150 mgs. of Benfotiamine now for 11 months with no uveitis problems at all. Before starting it, I had been forced to use steroid drops for a whole year, or suffer constant pain and goopy tears running from one of my eyes constantly. The Benfotiamine works better than the steroids did.
Doses can be raised up to 600 mgs. if needed from what I've read. Allow 12 weeks for it to work, but it only took 2 weeks for me to get off steroids after starting it.
