My grandson had 3 tics on his body today.
Two had just begun to burrow into the skin, and one was already embedded so that when my son removed it, it drew blood.

My son wants to know if they should begin abx or wait. They are frantic.

If anyone knows a good LLMD or otherwise Lyme savvy doctor in central PA (Harrisburg area), please PM me.

My grandson is 4 years old.

If it were my child, I would definitely get some abx right away. Go to a walk-in clinic as soon as you can!

Here is the site for dr referrals:

Post there also.

Thanks Lymetoo.
I suggested a walk-in clinic to his parents.
The tic was just discovered and removed last night. So far no rash as far as I know.
I'll post back in a day or two.

Go to a walk-in clinic if that's your only option.

Or go to your grandson's pedi and explain that your family has experienced undiagnosed Lyme, and that you can't allow it to wreak havoc in your lives again. Explain that you know that there is not always a rash.

When the pedi wants to run a test, agree - but ask politely how effective the test will be this soon (as his body has not had time to start making antibodies).

Ask for amoxy now to cover anything in the meantime.

And if the pedi only wants to give 10 days, ask - politely again - about covering the entire life cycle of the spirochete, which is 30 days.

Those are the things that worked for us, when our 2 year old was bitten. Our son's pedi finally said, "You know more about Lyme than I do," and treated according to Dr B's guidelines (at my request).

Wishing you well.

Thank you cactus!! I wasn't sure how long he should be on the abx, and it helps to know that amoxy is a good one.

Sounds like the others have given you some good advice. I'd add how about considering how you protect everyone with decent tick repellents?
