Is it possible that having a minor surgical procedure such as vein oblation in the doctors office can cause a return of lyme symptoms?
I had it done because the vein was severe shape and have waited this long to have it done.
All I know is that after two days, my body is buzzing and I feel like crap.
I'm not on anything except aleve twice a day for inflamation for the pain. I'm a little scared thatI may have stirred up a hornets nest. Posted by janice victorov (Member # 22937) on :

It seems perfectly logical to me... the bugs react to changes in your immune response, right? After a surgical procedure of any kind (or a physical stress as it were) it will in my view stir up what you called a hornets nest.
We saw it in my son too; he recently had surgery but his reaction was really strong. It has been a week and he is just starting to feel better but extremely tired and grumpy!

Did you stop any meds that you might be having a withdrawal symptom from?
Get some minerals and electrolytes. Magnesium.
LED light therapy would be very good to reduce the inflammation and promote speedy healing.

Janice, it is very common for a person with lyme to have a great escalation of their lyme symptoms after a surgery.
For this reason, we generally suggest putting off any surgery that you possibly can until after you have gotten rid of lyme and company.
Surgery means your immune system must go into overdrive. Trouble is, a lymie's immune system is not functioning or is severely compromised, like with AIDS is what my now-famous lyme doc said.
So, with the immune system severely compromised, the lyme can go wild after any surgery.

That is the lyme neuropathy. I never got any surgery of any kind while treating lyme. But, just from lyme I had the skin burning, inside the mouth burning (like liquid fire flowing down my jaw) pin stabbing, and other strange sensations.
Oral surgeon said it was inflammation and to take huge amount of Advil daily (3 at a time, 4 times a day, I think), plus I took a narcotic pain pill just to deal with it. I wanted to cut off my head for at least 3-4 months.
You can try sublingual B12 pills. It's what my final lyme doc prescribed for my mild symptoms of this years later. However, they may not be strong enough for what you are suffering.
You can ask your doc for B12 shots. The B vitamins help heal the nervous system.
You can call your lyme doc for help. Maybe he will up your lyme meds based on this report. Or, maybe he knows something else to do.
Finally, you can ask your lyme doc for a prescription for the B12 Burrascano recommends. Here is a quote from "Optional Supplements for Special Situations" page 29:
METHYLCOBALAMIN (Methyl B12) Methylcobalamin is a prescription drug derived from vitamin B12. This can help to heal problems with the central and peripheral nervous system, improve depressed immune function, and help to restore more normal sleeping patterns. Many patients note improved energy as well. Because the oral form is not absorbed when swallowed or dissolved under the tongue, Methyl B12 must be taken by injection. Dose is generally 25 mg. (1 c.c.) daily for 3 to 6 months. Long term studies have never demonstrated any side effects from this drug. However, the urine is expected to turn red shortly after each dose- if the urine is not red, a higher dose may be needed or the present supply may have lost potency. The injectable form of this is not available in regular drug stores. It must be manufactured (compounded) by specialty pharmacies on order."
If you happen to have any Ultram, you can give that a try. It sometimes helps nerve pain which is what you are experiencing.
Good lyme treatment eventually gets rid of this symptom. But, it could take a few months.

thanks tf. I called him and have an appt with him Tues afternoon.
I'm not in pain per se. Just haven't had this in a long time so it's discernig.
BTW, today the flare for Babs not even noticeable.
The lyme was acting up even before this surgical procedure. So not sure what's up..
I went to see llmd two weeks ago for the buzzing and minor twitches. He told me to doulbe magnesium and prescribed low dose of neurontin. Which i haven't used.
