I don't believe I have tinnitis (there is no ringing) but I have two symptoms that are driving me crazy- usually at night.
There is a swoosh sound and feeling that travels from ear to ear. Also clicking in my left ear. Noticed jaw issues on left side as well.
Anyone else?

- Tinnitus can be much more involved than ringing. Whooshing can be one aspect but it's nice to hear (uh) that you don't have ringing in your ears. Still, the ATA site is good to take a look at.
Be sure your magnesium intake is good and you might add some GINGER to your dinner and get some GINGER Capsules.
Inflammation is likely to blame but also see other details in the EAR/TINNITUS thread below. This is a frequent topic for lyme patients.

Again, MAGNESIUM is the very best thing. Then Ginger, Fish Oil, Turmeric/Curcumin. Also all the things that help the ears and are detailed in the Tinnitus Thread. -

Just sat through a lecture last night from a well known LLMD from Calif. She was speaking to other Dr.s and NP's.... she said this was one of the number one things to look for when diag. lyme...
Tinnitis.... and that in time with treatment with abx it would get better and go away. She didn't say anything about taking anything else to help it.
It is a symptom of lyme and will get better in time. I can pm you her name and see her website if you like. She's not my dr. but she seemed very good and popular in CA.

Holy smokes, joames, I wa so surprised to read your post. I am only newly diagnosed with Lyme, although I've had it for 14 years and I definitely experience exactly what you described!
I never thought it could be a lyme symptom though. Mine also occurs mostly at night and I would definitely describe it as a whooshing sound/sensation. I have also noticed that it happens when I look suddenly to the left or right without moving my head. Like my eyes are making the swooshing thing happen, but I "hear" it between my ears.
It's such a strange sensation! I can't wait to read more about it now, thanks to the links provided by the PPs.

Any kind of tinnitus (and that includes swhoosing) can be from inflammation in the inner ear. A person's heart can be absolutely - perfectly - fine and they may hear their heartbeat - due to many other things within the entire vestibular system.
Blood vessel inflammation can be a cause and that could also involve the heart, but not necessarily. The carotid arteries are sometimes swollen.
It is best to discuss any problems with hearing with your doctor. There can be many causes. And there are many things that can help, most of the time.
Be sure to look through the tinnitus thread for safety measures. -

Ummm ... My gyn told me she had that problem, could hear her heart thumping in her ear like a swooshing sound, especially when she was lying down. She said it was due to heart disease. Then, next thing, she was having open heart surgery.

Talk to your LLMD. Read ALL you can about tinnitus. See a LL neurotologist &/or a LL cardiologist if your LLMD suggests this.
Sometimes, just taking magnesium, fish oil and turmeric/curcumin will solve the problem if it's inflammation. Sometimes, just going on a gluten-free and diary-free diet can help.

Marrit, was your gyn LL, trained via ILADS and current with LD research at the time? THOUSANDS of Americans are harmed every year by needless surgery that is actually detrimental to their underlying issue, chronic Lyme disease & coinfections. Curious.
Hadlyme, DITTO! Just yesterday, my LLMD told me that i don't need to see a neurootologist (way good ear specialist) because my hyperaccusis, tinitis, perpetual sinusitis, etc. will go away with appropriate abx & supportive therapies. Hooray!

Remember to Smile, I doubt my gyn was LL. That was in another part of the country, no Lyme awareness there, not epidemic.
stephfino, that's exactly the word I was searching for. It's described as pulsatile tinnitus. Not sure what all the various heart conditions are, but I've read about a few caused by Bb and co-infections as well as those caused by viruses. Seems to be so many different heart problems out there, including inflammation,block, valve issues, etc. Does an EKG detect every and any abnormality?
Just wondering. I'm not up on heart issues.

One of my main symptoms are my ears. Fullness, tinnitus, and I had Labyrinthitis. Before my DX I had a battery of vestibular tests. I learned a lot about it.
If you can hear your heartbeat it is called pulsatile tinnitus. It has nothing to do with your heart. It could come from inflammation of your inner ear.
My tinnitus is better, but still there. I can ususally ingore it. My ears are very stuffy still. Ug.
