Ever since I started Biaxin I have had the worst taste in my mouth. I can't get rid of it no matter what I do.
I'm assuming this is a side effect from the biaxin. Anyone have this and no how to get rid of it?

Just started biaxin 1 week ago. Same horrible taste in mouth. Gargling and chewing gum continuosly. Don't know what else to do?

OH yes. It will stay with you the whole time. Are both of you taking Biaxin XL... the yellow caplet?
Someone posted here that eating potato chips was the only thing that helped... but of course, then you run the risk of getting yeast.
Maybe that's a once in awhile option!! I just made sure to drink a LOT of water. Helped some. I took Biaxin for 18 months!

When I took the regular Biaxin years ago, I had the same issue. After a while, the yellow tongue & blecchh! >:-(~
When I was back on the stuff near the end of my "late-Lyme" treatment (Rx'd by my PCP), I was taking a generic version of the time-release form (Biaxin XL) & don't recall anywheres as near a tongue discoloring or bad taste. Maybe the stuff wasn't as potent. Dunno. (I HOPE not! $$)
But if you're on the regular version, ask your doc if you might try a refill with the time-release kind. (I recall my doc Was adamant I take the 2 Biaxin XL caplets Together... once a day.)

I think there IS a difference in the two forms. That's why I asked.
I always took the pills 12 hrs apart. ( I took the yellow XL caplets. )

Yep, Potato Chips was what my LLMD back in Hyde Park told me to eat with Biaxin and Flagyl. It did work, and yes was worth it when that bad taste got really bad.

There is a difference in the 2 forms...according to my llmd the XL form does little or nothing for lyme...the regular form is most effective because of the way it peaks in your body...

I drink tons of water and decaf green tea every day, and have not had a problem with the Biaxin except once in a while, when I realize I have not been drinking as much water as usual and I get the bad taste. I guess that helps.

I pop in the occasional Altoid when the taste bothers me enough. Otherwise I remind myself that it's the taste of eventual victory, and I don't mind it as much :-D

I was on Biaxin for about a year. The taste did seem to lessen, but then the insomnia increased. I hate biaxin because of the insomnia!!

I take Dentyne Fire - cinnamon sugar free gum. It helps a lot! Another idea instead of chips is popcorn - it's salty and it's good for your system.
good luck!

My horrible mouth taste from biaxin went away with time.
Unfortunately a few months of it.
Hugs,

I started Biaxin a week ago and sometimes get the taste. On the side effects it says the metallic like taste if you get it will most likely stay with you throughout the use. Other then that no other side effects.

James, maybe no side effects except for insomnia!!
