Hi there,
I just wanted to see if others were doing the two medications together. My LLMD put me on both yesterday and I just read on the bottle not to take these two together....should I call the Dr?

My 12.5yo daughter has been on this combination for almost 2yr now. We've tried dropping the doxy a couple of times, but each time so far, her neuro symptoms have started to return. With both, though, she's 99-100% symptom-free.

My LLMD started my treatment with this combination. I herxed pretty bad, but I did improve somewhat after that.

My son was on this combo for a little while, as well. We had to switch the doxy out and replace with zith, though, because he was getting SO burned in the sun despite sunblock, long sleeves, cowboy hat, and staying out of the sun as much as possible. His poor hands were really close to being 2nd degree if they weren't actually. It was BAD!

It's not a usual combo... atleast acc. to pharmacists.
But LLMDs are known to use novel combos. They don't "follow the rules". [Roll Eyes]

The 2 are Not contraindictated, despite what some in the medical field believe.

I am taking Bicillin, which is penicillin, with extended release Doxycycline (called Doryx). Supposedly they interact, but my doctor must have thought the benefits outweigh any possible interaction.

If you are worried, you could always ask your doctor how he/she feels about the fact that the two supposedly interact, and hopefully whatever your doc says will put your mind at ease.

My LLMD said I could take them together but he was too afraid it would be too much for me so he wouldn't let me take them both together. So I'm off doxy and on amoxy-but I can't take the probenicid soooo, we'll see.

That drug interaction webpage is pretty good about telling you why they are contradicted together. Here's the link.

The link works for some herbs too.

I asked both my LLMD and Pharmacist and they basically said they are ok together. The rationale for them negating each other is something from old school years ago. I am paraphrasing but my head hurts and I am tired but you should be fine.

My pharmacist said if I was still concerned, take the doxy with food and take the amox two hours later.
