The sun is good IMHO. It gives you necessary vitamin D.
Watch out if you are on Doxy.

Did you get the "pins & needles" while still IN the sun?... or shortly after you "took shade"? ----- A little sun is good. Lots of daily sun is... Not so good now, esp. if you're light-skinned. This is due to the stronger UV-A components of sunlight- because of ozone layer thinning- as you travel further from the equator.
The folks in Australia & New Zealand have it the worst, though. You don't hear too much about the "ozone hole" now, but it's still there. Just not as dramatic as it was a few years back.
Most importantly, build up to longer exposures if you DO have to be out in the open. And wear some good-Q sunscreen. Posted by Sunrae (Member # 26551) on :
If you are on Doxy, be very careful. It can cause photosensitivity.
A couple of weeks after I started Doxy, I went for a long walk on a sunny day. I wore a hat and sunscreen. But at the end of it my lips and hands were tingling with pins and needles. I didn't know what it was until I read about Doxy causing photosensitivity.

the sun helps me a lot. it activates immune cells. but you have to be careful with some med, not only doxy, but also plaquenil.

Yes, it's good for you if you're not on doxy. Lyme patients often have low vitamin D.
I read something about vitamin D being a strong booster of the immune system that can have a major antibiotic effect. If so, then suddenly getting a lot of sun could maybe cause a bit of herxing.
But if you're on doxy, a doxy burn can feel tingly or cold, or otherwise different from a "normal" sunburn, and it doesn't necessarily get red. Happened to me, so I didn't recognize it as a burn at first.

sun makes me feel so great that I swear last summer I became somewhat addicted to it. It was the only thing that made me feel better.
I am white with freckles but tan dark in about 2 seconds. I was crispy by the end of last summer. Went to the pool every weekend and then to the beach for a week around Labor Day.
I have toned it down a bit so far this summer... worried about looking like Magda from Something About Mary when I get older, not to mention skin cancer.
This year I have a dry sauna and it helps me pretend I'm baking in the sun, so I go out much less often, and just supplement with vitamin D.

Simply put... without sunlight... everything dies.
: ) So dramatic I know
