I posted a topic about supplements and I forgot to ask if there is anything out there that will help me to stop being a MONSTER!!!

I am crabby all the time. Every little thing makes me angry (not good when you have a 14 year old son to raise by yourself).

The smallest of things agitate me.

Any advice?

For me working on sleep quality and duration
made a big difference. Medication-wise
clarithro, flagyl, bactrim have done the most to
help with mood. I did try St John's wort and
it actually made things worse, did not work well
at all. For sleep: magnesium and valerian 1 tab each 1 hr before bedtime, then right at bedtime
25 mg benadryl and at first sign of sleepiness
3 mg of melatonin, then lights out.

Getting proper treatment for this serious infection is number one.

Also avoid anything that adds stress to your liver. Eat as nutritiously as possible and get rest as best you can.

Magnesium will help. So will Turmeric, both of which you purchased. Fish Oil is also good as are B-vitamins. I posted the whole Nutritional Supplement list from Dr. B and another book over at your other thread. You might also look up the adrenal support section in that book.

I agree with all who say treating your Lyme and possible co-infection(s) is the first concern.

I used to be much more of a monster, and much more often (daily) before I began treatment. Now I only get irritable or have Lyme and/or Bart rage very rarely.


Another thing to seriously consider is food sensitivities/intolerances.

Chronic infections and inflammation can cause a person to develop food sensitivities to all kinds of things.

I would try an elimination diet of various common foods that have been known to cause symptoms, and see if that makes a difference over a couple of months, then retry each food one at a time.

I know for me, if I accidentally eat gluten, nightshades (bell peppers, hot peppers, paprkia, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, Goji berries, gooseberries, etc.), dairy, and a few other items, I can completely lose it (among other symptoms), and the effects last for a long time after.

For some people they may not start having a reaction to the food for days or weeks after they've eaten it, so take that into consideration when you are doign your experiment.


On a positive note, a lot of folks lose their food sensitivities once they have treated their Lyme and any other Tick-borne infections effectively.

Forgot to add another possibility: you might have - on top of one or more of the other things mentioned - hypoglycemia, which can be triggered or brought on by Lyme infection.

That's pretty much impossible to test for accurately, but there is a lot of good info published out there to read up on.

You can deal with hypoglycemia by eating the right foods (lots of info here and elsewhere on that) and eating more frequently.

Hopefully as you go along on your treatment you will have less and less days like this.

I am noticing that my daughter is starting to have some good days where she is not so angry and irritable.

I agree with the posters above.

Also, i believe that you may benefit greatly if you stop drinking cow's milk. It has been shown in studies to cause angry, hostile behavior in some who are susceptible.

Try eliminating ALL cow dairy products (milk, cheeses, yogurt, ice cream) completely for two weeks. Then, drink a big glass of milk and record how you feel after that.

I used to drink WAY too much milk, did the test above, and found that milk caused me to be very cranky & irritable! For several months after that i did no dairy, then tried the milk test again and got same cranky result.

So, for years now I've happily used rice drink on my cereal. I do eat some cheese sometimes and ice cream on occasion, but this is years after i broke my addiction to cow's milk.

I'm also glad nenet mentioned hypogylcemia. From your posts, it appears to me you're hypoglycemic also. BIG life changes are possible by balancing your carbs.

Maybe you could get Potatoes NOT Prozac from your local library?

Just ideas. ymmv...

Peacemama, I take a small dose (well, small dose for me) of Xanax throughout the day. Does nothing. Perhaps I should begin taking more. I hate to because I was addicted to Valium at one point in my life. I had no idea, just did "what the doctor ordered". (I was taking 60mg/day)

My script for Xanax now is 2 mg I forget how many times a day. Enough to sedate a horse [Smile] , wow I smiled!!!

When I am in the hospital for whatever UNKNOWN reason, they say "Honey, are you sure you take 2 mg of Xanax at one time"? Yes, yes, yes!!!!

I can take my 10mg pain pill, 2mg Xanax, etc. and still be coherent.

I believe they call that "ADDICTION".

You get marijuana oil from someone who makes it. The person I know makes it from the male hemp leaf, so not as much THC.

Is medical marijuana available in your state?

I hate how they call a tolerance an addiction. Anyone is going to build up tolerance to anything after it is in your system for so long.

I have tolerance to all kinds of meds, even meds I've never taken before. I swear, nothing effects me like it effects other people. If you are using the med to get "high" then I don't see an addiction. I see a person trying to get some dang relief!!!

I'm going to try a few herbs from iherb.com for my anger and see how they help.

I have heard medical marijuana is good. But-I tried it for pain and it worked-just don't like the "high" feeling.

Oh. . and I'm going to second Six up the thread. Treat the lyme. It helps with the rage. I thought all my rage was Bart, and then my Bart dropped significantly. . barely there and I still have rage.

I wouldn't blame this all on Lyme, because you sound like I was a couple of years ago (and still can be). Found out I had EHS, too, not just Lyme. In fact, I can feel my bugs responding to the electromagnetic radiation and microwaves in the environment, so I think they work together.

In fact, EMF exposure opens up the blood-brain barrier, so I think borrelia would be harmless if it weren't for the EMFs allowing it to cross the blood-brain barrier in the first place.
