I've recently started taking Samento and Banderol. I had treated with antibiotics for one full year--and never experienced a herx.

After one drop of the two herbals, I experienced a herx (?) that included: tightening of the right side of my throat, left eye pain, headache on the left side of my head, left arm pain, and intense fatigue.

My question relates to allergies. For years, I have had numerous allergies (mostly environmental--grass is near the top of the list). I am currently treating them with sublingual immunotherapy. I also have eosinophilic esophagitis (tightening of the esophagus--many believe related to allergic response).

How can I tell if the reaction I had after taking Samento and Banderol was a herx or an allergic response? I think I can handle most of the symptoms--I'm just concerned about the throat tightening.

One more thing--I am now on day three of the drops. I have stayed at one drop of both Banderol and Samento.

I still feel some fullness on the left side of my throat--but it is not as intense as the first day.

The other symptoms (fatigue, aches etc), are not as intense either.

My doctor has advised me to slowly increase the dosage to 15 drops each.

Yikes!! That would scare me a little bit.

I would keep some liquid benadryl on hand just in case it's an allergic reaction. I would also call my LLMD and ask if he/she would give you a scrip for an epi-pen.

That way if it's not a herx, you will be prepared if things get out of hand with the throat swelling.

My thoughts were the same as kidsgotlyme's - keep benadryl on hand, and ask for an epi-pen Rx.

Not that you will need it. But it's a good "just in case."

Increasing slowly is good. And esp since the reaction is lessening.

Please do keep an eye out for other possible symptoms of anahylaxis... hives, etc.

For reference: Our allergist's rule of thumb (for a patient who's experienced ana already) is that if there are 2 body systems involved (i.e. hives and throat) then epi and 911.

It's so hard to tell with herxing, though. Just please be careful to watch for allergic symptoms and stay safe!

Herx. That doesn't sound like an allergic reaction to me.

I started Buhner's herbs 3 week ago and had similar symptoms.

I kept pushin through(lemon water, detox, etc) and now i feel really good.

Sometimes our bodies just have to adjust to the new medicine or herb.

Or sometimes the herb actually does what it says and that can sometimes hurt : )
