Ok so my new kitten (10 weeks)
just sctached me tonight. I was saving him from bothering my dog while she was eating (a big no no)

Then later I was offering him some tuna from my finger and instead of lapping it gently from my finger like I thought he would, he ravaged my finger badly was hanging off of it. Blood and everything.

It was half my fault for doing it, but geez its not like I dont feed him enough.

so I have 2 deep punctures and some scratches.
The kitten is not rabid just hungry, and no I am not getting rid of him.

I am just wondering about tetnus shot while lymed.

Is that ok to get or should I not? I will call LLMD in am and see pcp in am. PCP will want to give me a vaccine.

Do you think I need different abx? I am on zith, omnicef and plaq.

I am cleaning it with betadine and puting triple ab oint on it.

any advice?

There's another question just posted asking same question about cat bite and tetanus. Look under "Tetanus shot"...

It sounds like you cleaned and dressed the wounds well. Continue using the antibiotic ointment 2-3x per day until the skin heals. Also watch out for signs and symptoms of infection (increased pain, redness, swelling, warmth, pus, and red streaks). Call your doctor if you develop any of these symptoms including fever and swollen lymph nodes. These are classic signs of "cat scratch fever".

If it has been over 5yrs since your last Tetanus vaccine your doctor will recommend getting a booster. You are at risk since the kitten is newly adopted(unknown exposures) and you have two "deep puncture" wounds.

I had the TDaP vaccine a couple years ago with no side effects. But, as always, it would be best to check with your LLMD before making any treatment/vaccination decisions.

Take care merrygirl and enjoy your new little furry friend! Pets are such a blessing, comfort and joy to be around.

hi merrygirl. i'd go to the doc and ask for augmentin. that's what's recommended for cat bites.

Thanks. Thats what I thought but my pcp is off today. I will have to rely on LLMD.

the bite punctures are perfectly fine today. Scratches hurt more.

just another annoyance

Doxy and levaquin also cover cat bites.

Get the tetanus shot.

It isn't worth the risk of infection.

I am sorry you got hurt.

Hope you are well.

I just added to my animal collection.

One horse and one pony.

I must be nuts!

Hugs,

Geneal

Hey Merry!

I have a grade saddle bred gelding about 14 hands high.

He is 12 years old.

Companion for him is a Welsh/Spotted mixed (gelded) pony.

My daughter has been taking riding lessons since her 8th birthday last October.

The amount of money I've spent on those lessons could have bought a barn full. [Roll Eyes]

We have a new trainer coming this Friday.

They are a lot of work, but it is so incredible to look out the window and see them in our yard.

I've ridden off and on since I was 9 years old, but have never owned a horse.

My daughter and son are in horse heaven.

Hugs,

Geneal

I used to ride saddlebreds in equitation back in the day. Gorgeous animals. Your kids are so lucky.

I didnt know you had a barn.

not to worry you too much, but many cats carry bartonella. That's how we all got infected. And you don't actually need a bite or scratch.

Er.....we don't have a barn.

However, my husband has a 7000 square foot "garage".

These horses have been kept outside.

It doesn't really get too cold down here in the winter normally.

A barn is on our list of things to do along with about

50 other projects my husband has started but never finished. [shake]

If I would have had a horse at 8 years of age (like my daughter),

I would have thought for sure I had died and gone to heaven.

Beautiful animals. Lots of work though.

Hugs,

Geneal

I got bartonella from my cat biting me while I was trying to put him in his kennel. I got really sick and developed a rash. I felt like I was going to die and didnt even want to go to the doctor. I have never felt so bad in my life and thats saying something.

My LLMD and PCP both diagnosed me with bartonella sepsis. I was put on high dose amoxycillin and it cleared up slowly. I started having seizures and relapsed because of this so be careful!
