What kind of side effects does zithromax have on the body? I am trying to figure out weather I am herxing or suffering from side effects. Lots of sweating, a little wouzy, sleep pattern off, very irretated by heat and humidity (more than normal). I am on day 49 off iv treatment 500 mg zithromax and I am not back to my old self yet. I am feeling a little better, but I feel like I have a long way to go.

This is my second round of IV. The first time I was on for 30 days. Felt good for 6 weeks then relapsed back. This time I am on Iv zithro again for 60 days.

The last ten days of treament I feel like I have taken a step back. Thought it was a herx, but maybe side effects from the drug.

A friend off mine is a Dr. and believes chinese herbs and acupunter can help. Has anyone ever gone this route. I am looking for help?

Ear ringing is the biggest IMO. Nausea to a degree. Stomach issues.

What is your current liver support? Milk Thistle? NAC?

Even the most effective treatment takes a long time and no treatment path is a walk in the park. Far from it. Even herbs are not easy. Nothing is easy about lyme or lyme treatment.

However, I do hope you are on good liver support as that is essential to a smoother ride and should also help the wooziness and ear symptoms.

If your doctor friend who is suggesting herbs, is coming from a good place. It's just hard to know of his expertise.

Does he have the training and a degree in naturopathic medicine? If not, perhaps he knows someone who does and who is also Lyme Literate.

IF your friend is lyme literate, ILADS-educated, I would see what he has to say. Otherwise, I would call upon him ONLY for support measures.

Even if a ND (naturopathic physician) has different methods of treatment, they MUST have intimate knowledge of the science of lyme and other tick-borne and stealth infections.

Yes, there are MANY complementary and alternative approaches, that are lyme specific and outlined by ILADS-educated doctor of all types.

Zithromax can be ototoxic. However, liver support often helps with that. Avoiding other ototoxic substances when on zith is important. That includes aspirin. More discussed in the thread below.

Lyme is also toxic to the ears - and the whole body. So, lyme has to be addressed with specific and sturdy force. There are various ways to work with that.

This list can be transferred to your computer to use as a reference file - and you can add to it along the way. I think people should be able to have as much information as possible before they make a decision. However, the scope of this can be most daunting.

So, I'd just start with Buhner's "Healing Lyme" book

The doctor with whom you would be working should have full knowledge of every approach below. He may also have suggestions that are not on this list - hopefully from his communication with others LL doctors or from his experience with other lyme patients.

To compare and contrast the work of authors regarding some of the most common complementary or integrative paths. Note that many still incorporate antibiotics.

This is not at all a complete list . . . just a start. It's far easier to have a LL doctor with lots of experience so that you don't have to do all the homework. Suggestions here are, in no way, intended to take the place of a good LL doctor. This is for patient education and also to serve as a basis for discussion with your LL doctor.

I am currently taking milk thistle 300 mg once a day. I was thinking to upping it to twice a day.

Any heart rhythm abnormalities (palpitations w/your sweating and other symptoms)? It can prolong the Q/T interval.

I had minor issues with palps on it (doing OK on Biaxin though).

My main issue was stomach stuff.

Yes, Tons of heart palps. That used to drive me crazy. I went to see a cardiologist and he said my heart was fine. This lymes has really done a number on me. 5 years ago they put me on lexapro (for anxiety. They could never figure out what was wrong with me. I am going to my pcp in august to see if i can come off of it. I was never depressed, and it did help at the time. But I think it has been lyme all along.
Thanks for listening, I know we all have our issues, sometimes it is just good to vent.

Krautz,

Run all changes and questions by your LLMD. So many things are related to LYME. Depression, anxiety, heart rhythm (and some meds affect that, too). Talk to your LLMD about changing ANY meds or adding any new ones, too.

Magnesium helps just about every symptom, too. Be sure your support measures are in place.

While venting has certain value, I thought you were wanting to more than just vent. I thought you were looking for information so that you could judge whether certain herbs would help or not.

Yes, Milk Thistle needs to be taken more than once a day.

If not, just disregard the composite list.

IF you think your heart palps are caused by Zith, talk to your doc ASAP. (I went off of it when that happened, but that's just my personal story.) Maybe they're from Lyme itself, but maybe not. Also related, make sure you're not taking Levaquin, or any other drugs that can affect the Q/T on the same day.

I totally agree with Keebler about the magnesium. It helps my heart palps (and other Sx) a LOT. PM me if you need/want advice on particular brands. And remember to take it at least 2 hrs away from Zith (and any other macrolide).
