The last couple of days I have been getting depressed for no reason. I can't explain it. I am already taking 10 mg of lexapro. I don't want to increase. I have been taking this for two years now. I am on Day 50 of Iv zithromax 500mg.
I am trying to figure out if this is the lyme, or the anti or just tired of laying around the house. I have no motivation to go outside any do any gardening which is my passion.
I got a good night sleep last night, first time in a long time.
Can depression be a herx?

Good Morning Krautz33.....I am taking 20mg of Lexapro a day and for the most part it gets me by, but, there are still days when for no rhyme or reason I am very depressed....It feels like I am walking around with a big whole in my heart and the core of my being and I have no control over it....it gradually will lift at some point later in the day, but, no amount of Positive Self-Talk can bring me out of it.....This disease can be overwhelming physically, emotionally, financially, etc.....so, I just view it as being part of the disease and take each moment as it comes and try to live each day as if it were my last and make the best of it....it's easier said than done on some days.....I hope this helps you to know you are not alone...Best Wishes.....Queeniepie

Depression, anxiety and various other uncharacteristic mental problems can be caused directly by inflammation.

Inflammation is a natural immune response to a pathogen, and killing a pathogen is going to bring on that immune response.

By addressing the inflammation aspect of treatment and the disease process, many of these mental anomalies can be greatly reduced, and is part of effective treatment also.

We used Krill Oil, Turmeric, Ginger and later Pycnogenol to control inflammation. I am convinced it helped a lot in keeping my wife functional while she was at her worst, with the disease.

Dan's suggestions are excellent. In addition, Magnesium is also a superb anti-depressant. None of these harm the liver as can many Rx in this category.

A gluten-free diet can also help tremendously to relieve pain, inflammation and depression.

A stressed liver will also cause depression so be sure your liver support is in place and avoid all non-essential meds or OTC products that are hard on the liver (as is acetaminophen).

Adrenal exhaustion will also cause depression. Lots of adrenal support links here:

Certainly! It's been one of my worst symptoms. Just shows up for no reason, whenever it wants.

I know how that depression can be. It swallowed up my life so that I could not experience joy or happiness. Just didn't hear the birds sing or see the blue sky or anything. I am still not completely out of it. A lot of mine is related to bartonella and who knows maybe I also have babesia.

I remember one day after being on abx for months and feeling like a zombie, I was suddenly stopped in my tracks (literally), looked about me and had this intense feeling of joy of life, how beautiful it is. It was almost like straddling the manic side of bi polar, to experience happiness for no reason. i just prayed, Thank you God, thank you for this moment because I forgot life could feel like this.

It is so hard to be aware of the mental emotional dullness taking over until I am gone under. I need to try to keep my mind more positive. I have let negativity become a habit.

St Johns' Wort helps me as well as all the supplements for my brain and nerves like acetyl l carnitine and magnesium and B12.
