Whenever I start a new protocol- whether herbal or antibiotics- after not taking anything for awhile, about 3-4 days into it, I get really itchy skin.

My skin feels itchy and sometimes a burning sensation.

In some places, I will get small, white bumps that will break open if I scratch them.

It is not an allergic reaction and it seems to happen with babesia protocols.

Anyone else?

What can be taken to stop the itchiness?

I would try an antihistamine. OTC Zyrtec (24hr doses) and Benadryl (6hr dosing) are best for itching. Ibuprofen might help along with the antihistamine.

Try to stay cool. Warm, moist environments will make the itching worse. If the rash is only in a small area you could use cold compresses to relieve the itching.

Also, try not to scratch. I know, it is hard to resist. Scratching increases inflammation and causes tiny breaks in the skin which could lead to infection.

Only one antibiotic, Clindamycin, caused me to itch when I started it. I also developed a red spotty rash all over that lasted for a week. It was not raised like hives, I've never seen anything like it before. Itched like mad.

Feel better:)

This just happened to me with taking Lariam for 2 months and nothing else that I have taken in the last couple of years. I have not taken Lariam for over 2 weeks now and still have the itching, bumps and burning skin.

I wake up scratching with blood spots on my sheets from scratching off the scabs that have formed on the bumps that are on my arms and back of neck.

I know Lariam has a long half life but I am getting concerned this won't go away.

I have used Benadryl only at times when I thought I was going to go crazy, otherwise I would love to know how to stop the itch better if you find out.

The itch is so bad, I have trouble sleeping.

Me too- for a few days then it stops. With Bart Tx in particular. Never any physical signs of anything - no rash, etc., just the feeling you described.

It looks like I'll have to try Benadryl. I am seeing my LLMD tomorrow, so I'll find out what he thinks about this.
