I have had my amalgams all removed over the last three years- about five each year spaced at large intervals. I had oxygen and high speed suction and took lots of chlorella. It never occurred to me to find out what they were being replaced with until now. I have had the worst menthol taste that is not going away even though I have been on no antibiotics for over six months. An alternative doctor suggested I get a biocompatibility test for dental materials which I did several months ago. It turns out I am highly reactive to the materials used to replace the amalgams Just my luck.
I am not sure if I have the money or the energy to have them all replaced again with the right material. Apparently your immune system overreacts to this material and this can cause all kinds of problems. It would have made sense to have this test before removing the amalgams but 20/20 hindsight doesn't help me now. This may help you if you plan to replace your silver fillings.

I've had all of mine replaced with composite materials. Never had the menthol taste.. It sounds like they may have used something new?

You can get the test through Biocomp Laboratories. Staff is friendly and you don't need a prescription. There is another lab called Clifford and I am not sure how theirs differs but insurance won't cover either one. Once they perform the test on your blood they will issue a report- mine was over 50 pages long with materials you are highly reactive to, moderately reactive to and least reactive to. You would then take it to your dentist and see if he or she has one of the composite fillings you are least reactive to They have categories for bonding agents, crowns. and other dental materials.
In answer to your questions my teeth were filled with white composite fillings but the brand used was in the highly reactive category. I also found out that porcelain crowns contain aluminum oxide so they may not be safe either and I have five porcelain crowns in my mouth. Gold is safe for me but I don't want to look like a pirate-need to find some humor in this! Any additional questions PM me. The way I look at it my immune system is already on overdrive so I will probably get these fillings replaced and hope that some symptoms get better.

I have used Clifford Labs for 20 years. They now have a new test for any and all materials for ortho products in your body during surgery. Like for rheumatoid arthritis, hip and shoulder replacements or neck fusions. It really helps out. Even the normal dentists will use them and follow the protocol. The prices are $250 and over 10,000 materials are checked. Well worth it.

Sorry that has happened..Last time I went to Dentist I had her make me a mold of my own teeth--for the day I need the new set of choppers I want to at least look like myself---so they will look just like they do now.

I was considering doing the test before my appt next month. I wasn't sure if it was really necessary. Now I see that it is, and i am taking the blood on Monday.

I have an appt. I have a cavity filled coming up. I do not have a clue as to what the filling will be made of, only know it will not be amalgam. How do I find out what I would/would not be able to tolerate? Thanks.

AMK: I just want to add- I notice you are in NY. Apparently NY does not allow this type of testing so people have to go to Jersey to do it. Maybe that is why you didn't know about it.

I used Biocomp Labs, not Clifford. I now live in Connecticut but I had heard of the test while I lived in New York I just never thought I needed it.
