It's an indicator of infection.

I'm sure someone will be along soon with more detail [Smile]

It could be both. Mine was 6000 and I was told I was having trouble detoxing. Maybe, but I was also very symptomatic when it was elevated.

Hey Neighbor!
Mine went up with treatment(doubled), my llmd told me not to worry, it will go back down gradually and it did. He said it has something to do with the circulation of bacteria, the die-off and my body's defense to that. I think it's an indicator of both. He also pointed to sluggish detoxing as well.

What is scary is that prior to treatment, mine was within or close to normal range, so TBDs can fool the tests so to speak and you can still be really ill, big news flash.

Here is my post from before with some answers that helped me:

it's the lyme. C3a is more indicative of inflammation I think. C4a points to lyme infection...possibly inflammation, die-off, etc.
