My daughter 15 yrs old is suffering from CNS Lyme, Bart & Babs for last 5 yrs ...on a wheel chair ...for last 2 months her cognitive symptoms are having peaks and lows ...they get better and suddenly start worsening ..presently very weak concentration, unable to focus, unable to express right words, cognitive deficit ...drs had switched her from zithro and mepron to doxy and rifampin 6 weeks ago ...first 4 weeks she started improving and now for last 10 days ...its become very difficult ...is it herx reaction or something else. ...any experience sharing and recommendations wud help a lot.

It seems to me that this is always the most difficult question especially when you are making the decision about someone else's body. If you have been treating for the past 5 years then you know about ups and downs and you have a history of dealing with them. Talk with the doctor, get his/her read on the situation and then trust your gut. We usually give it a week or two in order to develop a better handle on what is happening. It sometimes feels a lot like educated guessing.

I'm a caregiver for a woman with lyme. Her symptoms, including cognitive clarity/fog, vary a lot. By the day, within the day. In doing more reading, it seems to me this up/down cycle is common with lyme.
Hope you're taking care of yourself too during what must be a very difficult time.
