An "elite" membership supposedly. That's how they started out and how they still refer to themselves, worthy or not. From their own mouths...
"The goal of the new society would be to cultivate the growing knowledge of infectious diseases, endorsing scientific programs and retaining an elite membership of persons whose work showed significant contributions to the field."
Additionally... they wanted to be "independent" (no outside points of view) and it appears they did NOT want to play nice with others from the very beginning... a trend they continue today.
"After much consideration, the committee decided to set up the [IDSA] organization independent of ASM."
Those people make me so mad!! I truly don't believe they give a rip about people, only themselves.
The love of power and money is a scary thing.

PRIDE
They'll be damned if they have to admit error.

Not everyone who considers themselves elite....is elite.
Not everyone calling themselves a medical ethicist...is ethical. Hint: the selection of members of the IDSA panel on lyme guidelines.

I don't hate much or often, but anytime I hear or see IDSA my blood begins to boil.
When I am in a really bad place and not thinking positive my fantasy goes something like this:
The 'elite' members being locked in a room full of lyme and co infected ticks. Then make sure that they aren't able to get treatment for several years and then only give the abx if they have a reactive Elisa test.
Oh yeah, and then if it's reactive they must come back positive for both IgG and IgM. Then, give them only 28 days of abx. And then see if they can admit they were wrong!
OK, I'm done and feel better!

TC, They should have stayed as a "dinner group". They would have done us all a big favor.

The IDSA should limit their group psychosis to yucking it up on the golf course.

The tick infested golf course, naturally.
In one of those many states that "don't have Lyme here."
