I am to take a 3 day course of Coartem and with it I am to take 2 days of Daraprim at 25mg twice daily.

Has anyone used Daraprim for 2 days with or without Coartem.

I am aware it can deplete folic acid but my understanding that happens if taken for a longer period of time?

Any feedback would be apreciated

Hi,

Next week I will do this protocol too.

I also would like to hear about Coartem and Daraprim.

Could you tell me when will you start taking Daraprim compared to Coartem?

Also, will you have to take Malarone or Mepron after this protocol?

I have to start the Coartem on day one (for 3 days)

Then add in the Daraprim on day 2 for 2 days

Then I have to restart Clindamycin with Malarone

I read you have to take folic acid with Daraprim as it can deplete folic acid although as we are only doing it for 2 days I assume we dont have too??

So you muct have bad Babesia - can I ask you do you get 'Crash's like a yawning and then body crash's where you cant move as I am sure these are Babesia related - like your body is starved of Oxygen - I am trying to work out what these are and I am sure they are Babesia related??

What strain of babs do you have?

I took daraprim as a challenge. I took it for a few weeks, I think. No response at all.

I did, however, respond strongly to antimalarials, chloroquine and primaquin. Not sure what in the world I have. Babs, malaria, or some other critter.

Interesting. I finished a course of Coartem on Sunday then took 2 days of Daraprim (tues and wed) this week. If the Daraprim seems to hold off my Babesia symptoms then I will continue it with one pill per week for awhile. I'm not on any other Babesia/anti-malarial medications with it.

Rianna and hope, do you see a doctor here in the states or in Europe?

Sammy - I see a doc in the states

Interesting that you took Daraprim after Coartem but did you take the Daraprim mono? as it says it must be taken with another malaria drug or bactrim etc.

Rianna, I took the Coartem alone, finished on Sunday. Then took the Daraprim alone on tuesday and wednesday of this week.

I also read that it should be taken with something like Bactrim or Sulfasalazine for treatment of malaria or toxoplasmosis. Not sure why my doctor chose to do it this way. I need to ask when I call next week.

It's not Sulfasalazine but rather sulfadiazine.

Hubby had been on daraprim plus low dose tindamax for about a month. Will switch to Coartem tomorrow. Plan is to take coartem for 3 days and tindamax for 4 days and to repeat the cycles for a month.

Hubby took the daraprim for about 2 months last year while still on bactrim and didn't seem to have much response. At that time we thought his babs was gone. He had already done quinine and clindamycin and then primaquine and chloroquine and then 8 months of alinia with bactrim for a year.

Anyway he has a dumbell shaped blood borne parasite that now shows in his bloodslides so we are back to trying parasite meds. Had been off all parasite/ malaria meds for a year.

Wow Bea, I was wondering what your husband took with the Daraprim. Too bad it didn't work for him. Maybe Coartem will be the key.

How much Daraprim and Bactrim did he take daily? Did he try this combo with Mepron? I tried to PM you these questions but your box is full.

I did 2days of 50mg Daraprim, it increased my night sweats after each dose but seemed to hold off the other symptoms for only 2 days (it was supposed to work for a week). My doc is now considering trying a daily dose of Daraprim with a sulfa med and possibly mepron. But he hasn't decided yet so I'm waiting.

I have not tried the clinda/quinine or primaquine/chloroquine protocol yet either.

I took Daraprim (25 mg. bid) and folinic acid for toxoplasmosis (supposed toxoplasmosis; pcr positive, quest negative). I started this treatment prior to babesia treatment, and had significant results. The tightness in my leg was relaxed and head pressure reduced.

If you are only taking Daraprim for two or three days, I would just supplement with over-the-counter folic acid supplements. I took folinic acid (prescription, and very expensive) and had increased red blood counts, so I had to back off the folinic acid.

Have not taken Coartem

Hmmm. I never heard of Daraprim for Babesia before. I am having a bad time with Babesia now, judging by the unbelievably intense air hunger, fatigue, migraines, and sweats. I'll have to ask about it.

All of you guys who are or were on it, keep us apprised of what the results are. That includes other Babs treatments, too. It's a toughie to be sure!

Coartem heled me a lot the first round I took last Thanksgiving (after knocking me on the couch for a week). But it's not enough.
