Hi, my 6 year old son tested positive for bands 23, 41 and 66. His doctor put him on 30 days of Amoxicillin and someone suggested on here that he be on Zithromas too. So i suggested that to his doctor and she prescribed it.
Is this effective treatment? I read that Zithromax is good for early stages and the 2 combine will increase side effects but not improve the outcome.
any advice?

30 days is most likely not enough, regardless of which combo. The very best thing you can do is take your child to a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD). Otherwise you will try to figure things out as best you can while trying to convince your doctor at the same time. You and your doc will lack the knowledge needed to treat correctly. Not only will a LLMD know how to treat the Lyme, but he/she will also check for co-infections, which are just as serious and challenging to treat as Lyme (but require different meds). Why take chances? I would not mess around. A LLMD is the best you can do for your child. Good luck! Tammy

I agree with Tammy. Don't waste time because when he doesn't get better, you will end up at a LLMD's office anyway, and wish you went sooner.
My 1st course of treatment was Amox and Zith together but I was on for months...not 30 days.

My daughter was on amox/zith for her first year, and then switched to zith/alinia. She has been on that combo for 5 months. She seems better.

THe Nurse practitioner my son is seeing is lyme literate. She works with a LLMD in MA. and is willing to treat long term.
I got the lab results in the mail today.
IgG 41 reactive 66 Reactive
IgM 23 Reactive
His EEG came back normal.
I have to bring him for more lab work tomorrow.
What can i expect during treatment? Besides probiotics is there anything else i need to give him? vitamins?

I am treating my two kids now 5 and 10. They are also on nystantin. Watch and try to avoid the sugar intake (easier said than done with kids). Our LLMD has asked us to try a gluten free diet, he is seeing good results. I have added a good multivitamin as well.
4 months in and my oldest is off all asthma meds, no nebulizers,steriods or advair...(knocking on wood here) I hope the trend continues, our LLMD says that kids respond great to treatment.

There are 3 children in our family being treated. My 4 year old is on azithromycin now after about 6 months on amoxicillin. She has also had some artemsinin too in the past. Apart from the prescribed antibiotics/anti-viral/anti-parasitic agents, our paediatric LLMD said to give her a good quality multivitamin and mineral product as well as a good fish oil product. We are in the UK and use Lamberts Multiguard as the vitamin and mineral product and Biocare omegaberry as the fish oil product. She has been in treatment for almost a year now and has made really good progress.She is also on a low sugar and cow dairy free diet (as she had a cow dairy allergy- we use goats dairy instead).
