Dear Borrelia Buddies, I write with a heavy heart this morning, since my poor bunny has passed into spirit. He was only 2 years-old. He was perfectly fine until last night. For a long time, I have suspected toxic mold in our home. We had another rabbit die of Pasteurella in 2005.
According to what I have researched, most rabbits are exposed to this bacteria early in life. Many only succumb to it if they have a weakened immune system. My father and mother refuse to accept toxic mold as a possibility. A guinea pig I had also mysteriously turned up ill one night in 2001 and died. Is it just me, or is toxic mold a really good possibility here?
I tried to find a connection between toxic mold and Pasteurella, but found nothing useful. Does anyone else believe there is more to this situation? Incidentally, we even have mold in our dehumidifier in the basement. It appears to be growing under the wallpaper in the upstairs bathroom now as well, on top of the living room where the leak was prior to the roof being repaired. This bunny was in my bedroom. For a long time, the window had fallen open until Dad nailed it up.
Water very well could have come through and caused mold between the panes. The other two pets we had in the basement, and they died with similar symptoms. Raspy breathing was this bunny's only symptom on top of lethargy. My brother is older and spent his youngest years in another home. I have been here all of my life, and had asthma and constant respiratory infections until my late teens.
There is no way this is a coincidence! When the other pets were in the basement, the humidity actually caused the cages to sweat inside. The condensation was extreme. Mom said Grandpa always believed there was something in the house making us ill, even years ago. Our home is 32 years-old now. I am 27, and feel some of my health issues are caused by something in the house.

Sorry about the loss of your bunny rabbit.
If you type toxic mold into the search bar above, you will find some good info about the subject.
Sounds like it defintely could be killing your pets and causing you and your family additional health problems.

Sorry about the loss of your furry pets and all your concerns about fungal toxins in your house. As if you don't have enough going on!
Look into mold testing by Mycometrics in NJ. They do a "tape test" for just $40. Call them for explanation & directions.

Reading this felt alarming. Please do the testing. Maybe if it's that cheap, you can do it without telling your parents and explain the results if something comes back problematic.
