Only taking doxy until igenex results come back. Been waking up at 6am nauseas every morning since doubling dose to 400mg/day. Any suggestions?

My LLMD said to take with food and do not lay down afterward. Activity helps it digest better.

I take with food at breakfast and take second dose at dinner.

I take it in the middle of a hearty breakfast and a hearty dinner.

For me taking it with food is a must. I tried it both ways and got violently ill when i didnt eat something with it. My rx bottle stipulates not lying down for 30 mins afterwards and taking with plenty of water. Hope you start feeling better!

First I tried it without food and threw up.
Then I tried it at the end of a meal and threw up.
Then I tried it an hour and a half after a meal and sometimes threw up but not always, the theory being that it would not stay in your stomach any longer than possible.
Then I tried a drug called carafate, which helped, but it only prevented me from throwing up, most of the time, if I took it 45 min. after taking doxy. My Lyme doctor said I had to take it 2 hours apart from the doxy, in which case it never prevented me from throwing up. That was the only reason I started taking it in the first place, so I quit. But it is a good drug if your doc recommends it.
Now I am doing very well by taking the doxy right in the middle of breakfast or dinner. I only throw up about once every week or two, instead of almost every day.
Whenever I have reason to skip the doxy for a dose or more, I never have nausea. Once I was off abx for 8 days due to candida, and never got nauseous the whole time. So I am pretty sure that the nausea is an immediate effect of each dose of the drug and not increasing damage to one's stomach.
For me it seems to be worse if I take the doxy together with any other drugs. So I take it alone in the middle of my meal, then take others immediately after I'm done eating.
The only hard part is remembering to take the doxy at exactly the right time.
Also always drink at least a full glass of water with it, and don't lie down for 30-60 minutes afterward. Also don't lie in a bathtub--learned that the hard way, oops.
The reason for not lying down is not only that you might throw up, but that you might get acid reflux that badly burns your esophagus. My doctor cautioned me about that, and someone on this board posted that it happened to them, so be careful.
You are not supposed to take doxy with calcium or magnesium, so I do my best to avoid eating dairy products with breakfast or dinner, but I have trouble with that too. The calcium can bind to the doxy and prevent it from being absorbed. It is okay to eat it more than 2 hours apart.
One more thing I have noticed--although I now desperately need to stop eating all carbs except vegetables and a bit of fruit, to keep candida truly at bay, it does seem that if I eat bread, starch (like potatoes) or something breadlike such as almond flour biscuits with my meal, I have less trouble with nausea. If I don't eat enough, or I just eat a bowl of fruit or some meat or eggs by itself, then I will be more likely to throw up.
I am not suggesting you should eat carbs to avoid doxy nausea, because then you will get candida too. But you might experiment with different textures of foods to see which are better, and also make sure you eat a large enough amount at breakfast and dinner, to see if it helps.

I'm a bit nauseous right now from it. Sometimes it effects me that way, with food. I found that drinking a sip or two of Ginger Ale quiets my stomach.

The odd thing is, you're waking up at 6am nauseous? I'm assuming that you have not taken your morning doxy yet?
Being nauseous at 6am from your last doxy dose that was 8+ hours prior sounds weird, but stranger things have happened.
My nausea starts 45 min to an hour after my dose and lasts for about 2 hours unless I eat something. If I take it with a meal I don't get that sick feeling at all.
Good luck to you!

I'm not sure what's causing the nausea. I feel fine after taking the doxy with food. It's interfering with me getting the first dose until I can eat about 9:30. Today when I woke up around 6ish, I almost sat up for the next hour and it controlled the nausea somewhat. Not enough to eat but I eat when I get to work around 9:30.
