i maintained a low grade fever for stretches at a time over the course of many years- then it just up and stopped happening- after it did, i've not had what i would call a productive fever since ... even when sick with flu or bugs ...
and within the past year, i'll get bouts or flair ups of feeling like i have a sore throat, rhinitis, sweats, chills, achy bones, fatigue ... symptoms that act like i have a fever, i'm even warm to the touch, yet when i take my temp it's 97.6 ...
i'm stumped ... could it be possible for the body to stop being able to produce a fever?

Pretty much! The spirochetes don't like heat. I don't quite remember the mechanism that causes this, but many chronic lyme patients have abnormally low body temps.

its a thyroid thing lyme slows down your metabolism I took my temp 3x over a 30 day period at my llmds request it ranged form 95.7 to 97.3 and it sometimes felt like I was burning up with a fever , this does get better with treatment but I would point this out to your doctor. many prescribe armour thyroid as it combines t3 and t4 to keep you more stable .
good luck though finding armour though there has been a nationwide shortage for a while now !

pj1954, is the issue considered hypo or hyper regarding the thyroid? it seems they share common symptoms! and i have symptoms of both! would a blood test reveal which i might be dealing with?

It would be hypo. I think you would need a "TSH" for the thyroid.
or they can check the T3 and/or T4 .. thyroid

i've never had a temp of over 99 since i got lyme and it's been about 6 years now.
now i get it low at home but at the doc's office they say it's normal.

at the onset of this summer's heat i could tolerate being out in the sun- for hours, to my surprise- but when the temps dropped at night, like into to the low 60's to upper 50's i froze my butt off!
then came the switcheroo ... i could no longer tolerate the sun and felt like i was about to pass out being out in it for mere minutes- and when it dropped down into the cooler temps, i was comfortable again!
also, i haven't had a normal period since May-
and ... i just recently started taking iron tek liquid amino acids, which contain L-Carnitine, and am wondering if the L-Carnitine had anything to do with my crash during this past heatwave-
it contains 25mg L-Carnitine per 3 tablespoons- but i was only taking one tablespoon daily- still, my intolerance to heat and increase in fatigue happened prior to taking the supplement ... which is why i considered taking it the first place ...
and ... during this past heat wave when i crashed, though my oral temp showed my temp was low, even though i felt like i was burning up with fever, my basal temp indicated higher ...
and my GP had the ovaries to say "you keep coming back here for the same thing ..."

tutu is correct hypo, I found out most of my thyroid issues thru an endochronologist have them do a blood test they can check your t3-t4 tsh and check for reverse t3 then prescribe the proper meds for it !
lyme messes all your hormones up and with treatment you can get most of them back in the box and you will have more energy and less fever like episodes.

hi again ...
the dr had me had go to the lab beginning of this week for a throat swab, blood screen and urine test- i just spoke to her assistant about the results of the tests and she said everything was fine- my HDL and LDL were slightly elevated, though little change since the last time it was checked-
so i inquired about my problem possibly being my thyroid and she said my TSH was 0.9 which according to her was well within the normal range- and when i inquired about seeing an endocrinologist she said there would be no need ...
but that the dr called me in a Z-Pack for me to pick up from the pharmacy in the event my throat remains sore ...
