I am afraid to start any new abx. What can I do to see if I'm allergic to them? I almost died because of Bactrim and I think I'm traumatized.

What's the next step for me? :/

I would read the inserts and see what side effects to be looking for. Keep Benadryl on hand. Only start one drug at a time so you know which one you react to. And, find out what drugs are similar to Bactrim and should be avoided (talk to pharmacist).

Also, talk to your LLMD about your fears. I'm sure he's had this happen before I can say something to calm you down.

Avoid all Sulfa type drugs. I had a 10 day hospitalization from minocycline and now stay away from all tetracycline drugs. So far I've been fine on everything else.

Just be aware of what you are taking and look for reactions. Keep an epi pen handy. Go back to meds you know you can tolerate.

I know the feeling. I'm afraid, try two or three doses, feel worse and stop. I'm not as strong as I was when i started this stuff. Well find the right combo and you'll be ok. PM me if you want, I know.

If you decide that antibiotics arent' for you, you could try herbs such as the Buhner protocal. Check out his book called "Healing Lyme".

He uses herbs that were used to cure Syphilis before antibiotics came along. He also uses other herbs to balance the immune system and control inflammation, which makes it hard for the spirochete to thrive. I guess the spirochete loves inflammation.

I'm very sensitive to medication. Can't hardly take anything.

I hope you find the right steps to take. Best Wishes.

The way I feel about it, we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. There are side effects of drugs, lots of them, but the side effect of lyme disease and it's co infections are worse and I don't believe the herbs can get rid of it. Losing my mind, which is a reality I face, is far less attractive than dying from liver disease or a drug reaction.

I used to be afraid to take one drug of any kind. Now I am taking five at once. I didn't think I could do this longer than a couple of months but I have been doing it for nearly a year this time and I am doing ok. After Levaquin gave me tendonitis, I did not use abx for 8 months but I regret it as I was back to where I started.

Hope you can get your courage back up again. It is so hard to keep on keeping on.
