I do have a positive babesia test from igenex. Just wondering about a breathing symptom, it's not so much air hunger as a feeling of restricted breathing. Is that the same thing?
My breaths become shallow, deeper breathing requires effort, my body almost seems like it doesn't care if I get much air or not.
thanks

Either that or asthma. Maybe you should be evaluated for it as well. Restricted breathing sounds like asthma to me (I have it and also had babesia.)

I do that too. I will feel a tightness in my upper chest takes a little more to breath. I have babs and never have thought of my shortness of breath as air hunger it's just shorness of breath and upper airway tightness. My PCP gave me an inhaler and said maybe slight asthma. I think it's the babs. He doesn't think Lyme is in this state so I didn't even go there with him. The inhaler helps.

thanks for your replys. I have many symptoms but this one causes me alot of concern. It's strange to have your breathing pattern change. It seems less automatic and more voluntary now, like i have to make an effort if I don't want to breathe shallowly(is that a word?)
It's like my body has decided breathing is not as important as it used to be.

I've read that on this board many times. People say they have to "make themselves" breathe properly.

I have this, too. It's disconcerting. I've been tested for asthma twice, both times with a negative result. My LLMD tells me this is a symptom of babesia for which I tested positive. Shallow, barely-breathing breaths, sometimes constricted chest, sometimes a feeling of not being able to get enough air. I've been helped with an inhaler, too.
