Any advice? When I take Ceftin it always gets stuck in my throat and I fear I may choke to death! If
you are familiar with this pill you know what i mean. It's not the size, it just sticks immediantly to any moisture. Thanks in advANCE!

Dip it in olive oil??? Someone here did that to flagyl pills. The "cure" sounded worse than the disease to me!! Posted by Andie333 (Member # 7370) on :
I've been taking ceftin for most of my treatment. For me, it's been the most effective antibiotic...but some of the generics I've been given over the years have had the same effect you're describing:
as soon as they hit your mouth, they almost begin to dissolve. It's as if they don't have any coating on them at all.
I always took a big sip of juice, then added the pill and swallowed quickly. I'm pretty sure that not a method everyone would be comfortlable with, but it worked for me.
Interestingly, the next batch of generics I got were entirely different pills--with the coating that prevented this from happening.
I never know what to think about generic medications...but what I do know is that without them, I'd be a lot further in the hole!
Hope you get some other responses; I'd love to hear!

I'm with tutu- try the olive oil thing. Should slide right down the pipe. Useful for other medium-large pills and supplements, too.

I asked for the coated kind once I found out about it.
You can also get empty capsules and put them in there.
My daughter put water in her mouth, then the pill, and swallowed quickly before we knew about the coated kind.

Alrighty, I will try the olive oil. Thank you! I wondered if any other generics were coated better, thanks for that info. Also, Did not know you could buy a capsule to put your hard to swallow pill in. I try to do the quick swallow with a mouth full of water/juice but I guess I'm not to good at it! I think after I almost choked to death I psyched myself out! Thank you so so much for all of your suggestions and input.
Warmest regards.

abby.. You can get the empty capsules at health food stores. Pharmacies may sell them also; I don't know.

My son and I are both on this giant, dry, horrible tasting pill too! Why wouldn't they make these smaller and just have you talke two? They are dry and they cut into your throat when they get stuck. Taste of penicillin from when I was a kid and had to crush on a spoon. Read that the label says to "not cut or crush, take tablet whole" so I haven't cut them. Will try the olive oil as I am also afraid of choking.

I was on it for awhile. I took it with a sip of cranberry juice and then if it got stuck or that taste lingered (which would happen often) I would chase it with a squirt or spoonful of honey. Cut the taste right away!

The best thing I have found is unsweetened apple sause. I place the pill in a spoonfull of unsweetened apple sause or any food and then swallow. Goes right down. Otherwise, like swallowing chaulk!
Could also chew up some food then place pill in mouth, mix into the food and swallow. Basically need to disguise it for it to go down.

I had the same problem with Ceftin...literally not able to get it down.
The trick is, as has been stated: OLIVE OIL. It creates a coating for the pill and it goes down fast. You won't taste a thing.
OLIVE OIL for Ceftin. Very easy, amazingly easy. Good luck!
