Isn't 300 mg bid acceptable?

Might do if you're VERY small. But the therapeutic dosage is 400. Less than that just stirs up the keets.

From page 14 of Burrascano:

"For example, doxycycline can be very effective but only if adequate blood levels are achieved either by high oral doses (300 to 600 mg daily) or by parenteral administration. Kill kinetics indicate that a large spike in blood and tissue levels is more effective than sustained levels, which is why with doxycycline, oral doses of 200 mg bid is more effective than 100 mg qid. Likewise, this is why IV doses of 400 mg once a day is more effective than any oral regimen."

So, 300 mg bid is very good, higher than most.

300mg bid is a total of 600mg per day. That is a very good dose if your stomach can handle it.

Learned something new again, thought someone else might be interested.

b.i.d. (on prescription): Seen on a prescription, b.i.d. means twice (two times) a day. It is an abbreviation for "bis in die" which in Latin means twice a day. The abbreviation b.i.d. is sometimes written without a period either in lower-case letters as "bid" or in capital letters as "BID". However it is written, it is one of a number of hallowed abbreviations of Latin terms that have been traditionally used in prescriptions to specify the frequency with which medicines should be taken
