I need advice about acid reflux. My PCP told me to take Protonix, which I have been trying.
It is not helping much.
Also, I am afraid that it will interfere with the abx.
Any ideas? thanks

You may have to experiement with different medications until you find the right one. I am taking Dexelent, which is the strongest one available.
Some say that acid reflux is a symptom of Bart. I am not going to a LLMD, but maybe I have Bart. My acid reflux got worse when all of my CFS/Lyme symptoms started.
Also, when I took Amoxicillin for a month after a recent deer tick bite, it gave me such terrible reflux, I couldn't wait until I had finished the medication. So for me, antibiotics, at least that one, made the reflux worse. Right now I am doing the Buhner protocal.
Don't know if it interferes with the antibiotics or not. If you are going to a LLMD, that would be a good question to ask.

I had acid reflux on Doxy. It can cause permanent damage to your esophagus. I had to eat whenever I took it and never lie down up to at least an hour afterward.
But I found out taking apple cider vinegar (with the mother) helped my digestion so that I did not get it. I put some on my dinner salad with olive oil.

- Did you try DGL, marshmallow root, slippery elm yet? Those have been great for me. -

Eating slowly, and doing the betaine test are also worthwhile.

First thing in the morning I drink a mug of hot water with 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar and a tsp of honey, then eat breakfast.
this seems to help me tremendously. also don't die down for 3 hours after eating dinner.
My reflux went crazy on doxy. Had to switch.
Seems that as you age the stomach acid lessens so many people actually have not enough acid in the stomach.
Upping your probiotics might help also.

I take nexium 40mg 2x daily. It is safe to take w/ all of the abx I'm on according to Dr. and the pharmacy. (Biaxin, Suprax, Tindamax)
Also I have been told to raisethe foot of the bed while sleeping, avoid eating large, fatty meals, stay away from acidic foods (citrus fruit, caffeine, tomatoes, etc..)and no eating 4 hour before bed.

stephino, don't you mean raise the HEAD of the bed?
By elevating your head, acid is less likely to come up your throat while sleeping.
That is what the doctor ordered for my husband.

I feel like I must explain my above post.
I didn't mean I am the acid reflux expert because I have found what works.
I meant I am the expert because of all the information I have accumulated on the subject, which we are in the process of trying.
I feel like for as long as my daughter has been battling this stuff, I must be an expert by now, that's all. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.
I am happy to share the information I've accumulated with anyone who wants it. Just PM me.
It does seem like the acid solution is different for each person, just like the lyme solution is. We need to try everything we can until we find the thing that works for us.
