Hi,
I am considering going to an out of state doctor... and I might need IV antibiotics.

How do you coordinate getting the medications (might need outpatient IVs, or a port put in - I'm not familiar with the details of this yet) when your doctor is from another state?

Thanks,
misty

I guess what I want to find out is if your LLMD is over an hour away - do you have to go there for IV treatments?

Or does your LLMD coordinate care with your local doctor (if you have one who 'gets it')?

thanks,
misty

The doctor writes the prescriptions you need. That gives you the meds and the order to have an IV put in, etc.

You have your IV put in as an outpatient in a hospital.

An infusion company comes to your house and gives you all the supplies you need and teaches you how to infuse (drip) the IV medications yourself. You usually do it twice per day. Then, they come once per week to check your IV site and make sure there is no infection.

Thank you - that's not as bad as I thought - logistically anyway.
