An ND recommended that I buy (from her)a FIR sauna. It's a little cube that fits one person with his/her head sticking out of the top and theirs little holes for the hands to stick out and hold a book to read while sitting in this thing. It has a ceramic infrared heater.
Has anyone had experience with these things? Are they effective enough at detoxing to invest the 3 bills?
I would imagine that controlling the heat so that it doesn't get too high for Lyme patients is necessary(?)

I would buy from a far infrared manufacturer... They are good. Dr. K recommends them...but you should not use them daily...they are to be used specifically when hydrated, and when using binders for best results.
search on lymenet for far infrared saunas...lots of posts and suggested manufacturers.

I have the "tent" type like you described. I paid about $180 on ebay including shipping. It was the best money I've evern spent. It really helps with herxes and if I need to feel good for something (like a special event) I know I can sauna for a few days and almost be guaranteed a "good" day.
I've been using mine for over a year and a half. Be careful when you shop - the exact same sauna can run from $150 to $600 or more.
I like it that my head sticks out because I can't breath hot air. And you can stick your arms out too if you want so you can read or in my case use my laptop.
I drink water with electrolytes in the sauna and I can now use it for 40 minutes at full power. I try to sauna three to four times per week.

Mojo,
Thanks for the information. I have also been considering one of these and I have been checking out ebay. I held back until now because of reading that the thing might give off "bad" odors from heating up the inside material. Have you noticed this??! I really want to try this.

Thanks, Mojo. Was yours by chance sold by a company in Arizona?

I have a biomat, which uses far infrared radiation and has other positive effects. It has a sauna setting, as well as lower settings, and I use it almost everyday.
When I'm feeling weakest, I use it on a lower setting and nap on it. It's very relaxing.
When I really want to detox, like after an intense rife session, I use the higher FAR sauna setting. I can't take it for very long, but it feels good and helps when I'm herxing a lot.
The biomat is quite expensive (I think I got mine on ebay for around $1,000), so its not for everyone, but I love mine. But, the upshot of this is that I think a far infrared sauna is a great move and I've heard MANY people say it is the best thing they ever bought.
If you do a search on here for them, you'll get lots of positive responses in other threads.

I use a SoloSauna for mercury detox. I take 1 capful of e-lyte (M.D. recommended) after the sauna to replace electrolytes. I spoke with the company and they said best for Lyme patients to keep their head inside, as the Lyme organisms go to the head.
Also, I have seen a CFIDS M.D. Dr. C. in N.C. who told me not to go in it as I have diastolic dysfunction, which he has found in over 90% of his CFIDS patients. I have CDC+ Lyme as well as CFIDS. 14k

Wait Heart, I'm confused.
You said that you use a SoloSauna, then you said that your doc told you not to go in it due to diastolic dysfunction.
Does that mean don't go in it at all, or don't put your head in it?

I just had a stress echo test done and the results were normal. If I had a diastolic dysfunction, would the stress echo test have found it?
The thing about putting your head inside the sauna doesn't make sense to me when considering that a FIR sauna is supposed to pull toxins out of the fat layer underneath the skin layer. In your head, you don't have much of a fat layer (at least not most people). I understand that the brain is a fatty tissue, but I don't think that the infrared would penetrate the skin, then the skull and then be pulling toxins out of the brain through the skull and then out through the skin. That doesn't sound right.

I haven't noticed any odors from the sauna materials and I can be very sensitive to that.
I'm not sure where mine was manufactured - I've had it for almost 3 years and can't find the info from when I purchased it.
My sister recently purchased one that looks exactly like mine (on Ebay real cheap) and she loves hers, too.
