I was put on septra DS for a nasty strep and bronchitis infection that wasn't responding to amoxicillin. They put me on Septra DS.

The generic says sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim DS tablet.

I know this treats some kind of infection but which infection does this treat? I guess the dosage for this pill is 800 mg / 160 mg. What is the normal dosage?

What are people's experience with herxes on this med? Oh dear I'm scared!

I wanted to add. Since I started taking the septra my feet are killing me. My shoudlers are hurting bad. The other day I couldn't lift my arms over my shoulders without severe pain.

I am breaking out in a rash but ONLY on my forehead. My skin is overall pretty itchy. This didn't start until like the 5th dose.

My neck is hurting worse than normal. And can I just say I hate that normal to me is bad pain, that's a terrible way to live. Anything more than normal is excruating (sp??).

I'm still hacking my lung out and my throat is still sore! Boo to Septra lol!

Anyway just wanted to update how I've been feeling on it.

i just did a search on Septra DS and saw your post. How did you end up doing?

It sounds like it may have been hitting Bart, but I am not sure.

My llmd is switching me to it and adding Coartem as well...I know with Bactrim DS that my liver counts went up very quickly, so I had to get off of it.

I will have to watch my liver on Septra.

I hope you are better, especially this being 4 years ago.

Healing wishes!

Id be careful with a rash. Septra is known to cause Stevens Johnson syndrome. Not to scare you or anything. I got the rash on the bottom of my feet and finger tips and had to go off it.

Bactrim and Septra are the same medication.
