Hi everyone, SO I woke up yesterday with a very white tongue. I have only been on abx for about 10 days. What is this? I also have red spots all over my throat and its alittle sore. Yes I am taking a probiotic about 30 billion a day Posted by arkiehinny (Member # 26546) on :
You indeed have thrush; yeast. My tongue went through this, early in aggressive treatment, as well as having a tender mouth, sore, etc. What I did?
Got unsweetened Kefir, a yogurt like mild substance from the health food store. Sweetened with pure stevia extract. Took a big swig, swished it around a bit, held it in my mouth, then swallowed.
Sounds yucky, but it helped. Drink about 4 ounces of Kefir a day, too, in addition to the probiotic. Also add pure organic coconut oil. Just take a tablespoon, hold in your mouth for a while. Swish, swish. Swallow if you like.
It soothed the soreness quite a bit. Be sure to take your Diflucan to kill the yeast.

Or Nystatin. I do not take my antibiotics without Nystatin.
Squeezing a lemon in ice water and sweeten with stevia helped me too.
And the coconut oil is good but like most things lyme you may have to start very low dose...
Pinch to start and ramp up.
They also make Clotrimazol Tro. tabs for oral yeasts, but they make me very sick..But you could try it...

You need to call your lyme doctor for a prescription for Diflucan. You have yeast on your tongue, and with every swallow it goes into your stomach and intestines. Diflucan will kill it throughout your body.
DIET, DIET, DIET is the key. Then, be sure to follow the 5 step plan outlined below. It was developed by my naturopath. It works.
"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."
Five Steps to Candida Elimination:
1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.
2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]
3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]
4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]
5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

Ok so heres the thing. I have a sore throat and red spots on my throat. I looked it up and it said it could be a sign of strep throat. It also said that with strep you could have a white coating on your tongue... do you think this could be that or does it look more like yeast?
Im making an appointment with my family doctor (who I dont trust anymore since this whole ordeal started) but my LLMD is very hard to get appointments with

hmmm.... glad I posted "in my non-medical opinion"...
I hear you on the "I don't trust doctors" mantra. I'm down to two doctors I will actually trust. Well, maybe 3...I'll count my cardiologist.
Do you have other symptoms of yeast? Bloating, itching, insomnia, etc?

I dont have any itching or bloating..insomnia yes..but I've had that for a while now!

Yep. Looks like my tongue. Candida diet and Diflucan will help ... might take some time but it'll clear up.
Nystatin, from my understanding, only works in the gut --- doesn't get into the blood stream where the Diflucan can get.
I've had yeast problems for several years (long before this Lyme), so I'm all too familiar with this beast Posted by tick battler (Member # 21113) on :
I've heard red spots on the throat can be strep. I think you can just get a throat swab to find out.

My daughter has systemic candida. She takes Diflucan, works great! The only thing I haven't seen mentioned is to soak your toothbrush in half peroxide/half water and after brushing gargle with a clean batch of the peroxide/water solution. Not only does it help the tongue, but it kills the bacteria in your mouth and makes your teeth whiter.

You could have both--which is not that uncommon.

I was going to say that you could have both, too.
That would be my guess - I think you should definately get tested for Strep and contact your dr. for nystatin/diflucan.

My tongue looks like that almost every day just about! But I do think kefir does help some when mine gets that bad.
I am no longer on antibiotics, but I'm still having thrush problems. Not sure what to do about them anymore.

Red spots in the throat can be 100 things strep cocxacie and other viruses.Do blood test for strep imunoglobulins thats more acurate swab can miss it.

oh yes, red spots are, for me, definitely strep. i've had it several times.
and, dang it, i'm still battling thrush myself.
i get white mucous in the morning after i brush my teeth. i don't think the liquid nystatin is doing anything for it.
i'm going to have to find another source of diflucan cause my gp won't give me anymore.

Looks familiar. I'm on Nystatin and Diflucan and a good quality yoghurt. They are helping, tho my tongue still burns a little.

I have the same from time to time. If you want to get rid of it immediatly I'd use a dental floss to scrape the tounge. It works just fine.
But yeast on the tongue is often a sign of systemic yeast.

You have what is called strawberry tongue. Look it up online. It is associated with strep. And if your throat is sore, and it has little red bumps, then it is strep not thrush. The white coating on ones tongue can be due to either yeast (thrush) or strep. Fungal versus bacterial.
Lyme is a biotoxin disease as well. Many in the biotoxin illnesses develop other bacterial infections.
I went through the exact same thing. Thought it was thrush, but it was an additional bacterial infection caused by strep.

I am paranoid of yeast. I have been on 4 pills of Nystatin / day since staring treatment. I also take the following to battle yeast:
-250 mg of Grapefruit Seed Extract 2x / day (also has a side benefit of being a cyst buster for lyme)
-1 capsule of Oil of Oregano 2x / day
-Brush tongue each evening with toothpaste, then H2O2, then Listerine, then rinse and sprinkle on a PB-8 probiotic.
I have had ZERO problems with this..and I have always been "yeasty".
I have found I can "cheat" on my diet a few times per week and still be okay with this protocol. My tounge is my barometer.
Only down side is I can't take Florastore since I am on nystatin.
