Just wondering if anyone has tried this combo. My bartonella titer was 1:80 and my LLMD is suggesting this abx combo. Any advice?
Thanks.

I had really good results from Levaquin. It's good to know the risks vs the benefits so you can decide whether it's worth the risk for you. For me, it was the last resort before IV meds .... I was disabled .... so it was definitely worth the risk.

I felt bad for six weeks, then saw steady improvement. It cleared my cognitive symptoms.

Are there alternatives to levaquin?

I've been on Rifampin and Zithromax with good results, though I am not done treatment yet.

The drugs of choice for Bart are

a) Levaquin (alone)

b)Rifampin (with a macrolide like Biaxin or Zith)

I tried Levaquin. Most do well on it, including Six here and others. But it can cause painful tendonitis and tendon rupture. 2 weeks in I started getting some achilles discomfort so I stopped. Didn't want to mess with that.

I'm now on Rifampin and Biaxin with Amantadine. Biaxin will go after Bart and lyme. Amantadine makes the Biaxin more effective on lyme by raising cellular PH.

I have been on Rifampin for almost 2 weeks. The first week was with doxy. I just started the Biaxin / Amantadine this week.

I have to say...I seem to have herxed worse on Rifampin than Levaquin. The first 2 weeks on Rifampin were a bit rough, but I seem to be getting better. Today is pretty good.
