Does anyone have cervical spinal issues sggravated by this disease? Ive got a fusion but lyme has definately aggravated it in the past.
That was one of my first symptoms and after 2.5 years it has returned. Certain nevk postures and the valsalva maneuver can produce pain radiating down left side.
I dont want to jump the gun in terms of treatment ( im in the neuro' s office now).
I have a lot of other symptoms now which include an aching eye, and sore soles, twitching primarily in left pectoral, twitching in leg muscles, occasioal nausea, etc.
I just left the neuro ( who is very compassionate and open minded), who said "there is definately irritatation of the nerve root". I agree. What is causing it? I know that too, the disk at the adjacent level is problematic.
But is it extra problematic due to the lyme? Thats been my past experience. Ive just never had this much pain before.
These problems all began about two weeks after i went on Rifampin, last feb, and have waxed and waned over the year. Im not sure if there is a relation between the rifampin and the irritation. Im also eating biaxin and bactrim.
Who has had something similar?
Is anyone else in my boat? Please relate your experience.

my understanding is that Lyme is in the cranial nerves early on and that is one reason for early neck symptoms. It also inflames the spinal meninges - ie, causes meningitis.
Neck discomfort is one of my ongoing symptoms and I don't know how to get rid of it. Chiropractic care gives temporary relief.
If anyone knows what to do for the constant cervical nerve pain, let us know!
Re your aching eye, I've been able to get rid of Lyme eye symptoms by drinking mangosteen juice.

I'm relieved to hear other lyme patients have neck issues. My neck has always acted up during stress and I was just dxd with ALS so that is definately stressful.
I thought the increased neck pain was due to ALS, maybe its lyme. I'm starting PT soon, we'll see how that goes.

I had severe upper cervical issues before finding out I have Lyme. I started seeing a chiropractor who specializes in upper cervical and WOW... my neck went back to almost normal! (I saw him for a year). After I could no longer afford to go to the chiropractor, within a year I now have bad atlas/upper cervical problems again. Worse than before I have a very weak neck.

Sounds like a good herx. We don't know why it effects the neck so much, but if I had to guess I would say it is related to the buffalo hump experienced in patients who have adrenal disorders. Basically we are just infected...
I hope you are on something to prevent yeasts--I take Nystatin, and others take Diflucan.
Lemon juice helped my neck pain, as well as Epsom Salt soaks. There was a time I sat with one in hand at all times....
I rubbed ginger root on it in the tub--it is proven to reduce pain.
Coconut oil smothered all over before bed...

Al your post is interesting. It very nearly says that all symptoms which appear to by Lyme could be related to nerve roots in the cervical spine.

Also consider Chairi malformation? You said you had a fusion of some cervical vertebrae so I'm assuming you were assessed for Chiari. But not all doctors are up to speed on this diagnosis. -------------

Cervical neck pain is one of my worst problems.
Three years ago (when the neck pain started), I had an MRI, not much wrong.
then 6 months ago I had another MRI and three discs in my neck of deteriorated badly, they are buldging and putting pressure on the nerve root.
Chiropractic care either made it worse or didn't help( tried 5 different kinds of chiropracters)
It might be your vegas nerve is irrated, that would also cause the nausea. (although nausea and sore soles are might be indicative of bartonella) Lyme might be affecting your nerves, or it can be affecting your discs (I mean if it causes arthritis in your hips and knees, it can get to your spine) or maybe its both nerves and discs, plus something else.
I know several other poeple who have had disc deterioration in their spine. So if you haven't had an MRI recently, you might consider that.

A Syndrome is a group of symptoms not a disease BARRE LIEOU SYNDROME is just that.
What is causing these symptoms is guess work; Lyme can certainly be involved as can Chiari, or. A brain stem infection.
I've heard negative information about the treatment of Barre lieou. Cervical stenosis can also cause these symptoms.
I think Keebler is on the right track by using a differential view.
