Can Lyme disease cause growths? My dog has a large growth on his side that didn't test obvious for cancer, though the vet couldn't rule it out without further, more expensive testing.

I got bit by a tick that he brought into the house. He's really gone down hill in the past several months. He's tired, he can barely walk, doesn't want to eat much and has this large growth on his body.

I wonder if he might have Lyme instead of cancer. The vet said his symptoms could likely be because of cancer and he told us that animals can't get Lyme (roll eyes).

But now I wonder how hard it would be to find a vet that would treat Lyme in my dog and how friggin' expensive that would be.

Anyone here have experience with their dog and Lyme?

get another vet. Gee, if dogs don't get lyme why is there a Lyme vaccine for dogs.

Try calling your local Veternary School Hospital.

Doxycycline also is the treatment they use for dogs with lyme.

Will be thinking of you.

I think it's time for a new Vet!!!

There are hundreds of sites out there on lyme and dogs...show her this one.

It's good info for yourself and your pets.

Also, one of my dogs had lyme disease a couple of years ago.

I can tell you he was really sick and kept getting worse till treatment.

He couldn't walk, didn't eat etc... The vet gave him some meds and he was like new after a week.

The treatment for dogs is great, it works well.

Sometimes I wish I was DOG, I'd be well years ago!

My 4yr. old Golden has had lyme AND Erlichiosis almost as many times as I have.

She gets hit about ever year - sometimes twice despite our valiant efforts to keep ticks off of her.

I know right away when she is sick. Mobility goes wayyyyy down, very very stiff as in cannot get up and down the stairs very well, difficulty getting up in general. General malaise and not wanting to play.

We test with the 3DX and can at least get a relative value on her levels.

DOgs need a higher level of Doxy then we do (as per my LLDVM). My 63 lb.er is currently on 4-500 mg.'s a day. This will also cover erlichhiosis at that dosage.

She respones very well and very quickly. I sometimes wonder if dogs herx but I have never seen her get worse before she gets better. She just gets better in a few days of taking the meds.

Get another Vet! ASAP

Untreated Lyme disease in dogs leads to Kidney failure and death... as per my LLMD!

Can't believe your vet said that! Although I shouldn't be surprised-- my vet once told me that Lyme disease only occurs in & around Lyme, Connecticut. Sheesh.

Sorry to hear your dog is sick-- definitely find a new vet!
