I am so confused and discouraged [Frown]

Our teenage daughter restarted low dose of Mino two months ago , beginning this month tried to increase by 50mg every other day per LLMD.

This week started getting vision issues, so Dr. said go back to 50mg once a day of Mino.

End of Sept added low dose once a day of Biaxin.

Since restarting antibiotics she is not feeling well.

This week symptoms seem to increase, sometimes hard to tell as every day feels unwell.

It has been about four weeks since starting Biaxin so probably a herx.

She has been getting symptoms that seem to be related to low blood sugar, sometimes a couple of hours after taking Mino and Biaxin , which is usually after dinner in evening.

Blood sugar has not been outside of normal levels.

She also has anxiety, so not sure if Biaxin is increasing the anxiety, causing symptoms that seem like low blood sugar or symptoms are from infection.

Last night she took both antibiotics after dinner, about one hour apart.

Shortly after taking the Biaxin she felt, almost like a panic attack, slight nausea, weak. Benadryl helped.

Sometimes she feels like this during the day. Trying to adjust her meals to balance groups , in case it is sugar related.

The only thing difference about last night was that she just restarted the meds after a one day break.

Sorry for the long post. I guess I am wondering if anyone else had problems from Mino and or Biaxin.

Any information, experiences, etc is greatly appreciated.

Also since beginning the Biaxin, I have noticed that she feels weak, legs feel heavy at times and more headaches.

Biaxin can cause anxiety symptoms in some people - either as part of a herx OR as a side effect of the medication itself.

I the begining of tx. I would experience some slight anxiety within an hour of taking the Biaxin. After being on it for about 3 weeks it went away.

I too get more headaches on Biaxin.

Jane,
So sorry we are still having to deal with this crap with our girls.

Cassie had very heavy fatigue primarily in the legs the other day. I am thinking she really needs to detox and doctor agrees.

We never did Biaxin. We did mino and she was fine on it. I have never really ever noticed a herx when she takes any antibiotics.

Blood sugar can be part of the culprit as well. There are so many pieces to this horrible puzzle how do we begin to seperate it all?

Cassie is starting a protocol of Mepron, Bactrim and Zith. She has never done Mepron before so this should be fun.

I don't really have much to offer but I do think about you guys quite a bit.

Prayers...

Deb G

Dear Jane,

I had terrible problems on the Biaxin and the only thing that worked for me was accupuncture.

It took care of nausea, dizziness, pains, etc. it really made a world of difference. I can't imagine a child taking this medicine because I almost didn't make it myself.

good luck!

Well we did figure out one problem with the Biaxin.

We were giving it to her about an hour after eating; so we tried giving it to her with meals and it is helping. No more problems soon after taking the Biaxin.

Still has More GI symptoms on the Biaxin, but at least we have solved one problem.

Thanks for all the replies.

I think I spoke too soon.

Update:

Today we ended up in ER. Shortly after taking the Biaxin she said it felt like she was not breathing.

I gave her benadryl and it did not seem to help. Of course the anxiety kicked in and made matters worse.

Er Dr. diagnosed her with anxiety and stress. The paramedics felt it was anxiety too. She has Bart and Lyme, so her anxiety can go through the roof.

She has had this symptom ongoing, she says it feels like she is not getting enough air.

Some days it is better than others. We go back to LLMD in two weeks.

It is so hard to know if adverse side effects or herx.

Of course ER doctor asked her why so anxious, she asked why is she on antibiotics. I told her she is being treated for late stage Lyme disease.

She told my daughter that is nothing to worry about and she needs to get back to school.

Now I know why I wanted to avoid the ER.

Any thoughts-- could this be a herx, etc.

Do a search in here for Air Hunger. It's a common thing with Babs.

Sounds like she's dealing with herx's to me.

What does your llmd say about all this?

Maybe treating too hard? Some llmd's believe in doing things more gently so to not have such harsh herxes.... esp at her age?

Prayers
